Overclocking a Conroe...does it affect other components in the system?

Meaning by changing the FSB (since the multiplier is locked on all but the extreme edition) does that also increase say the PCI and PCI-X bus speeds thus taxing your other system cards besides the cpu?

I assume the FSB also affects the memory speeds, again will this endanger the other components?

 
Ok so this means that only the memory will be affected, so overclocking could only cause you to lose the cpu and memory but not the vid card or sound card for example?

Heat and voltage degrade electronic components. Keep the voltage reasonable and the components cool and they will last at least 6 years. It really has nothing to do with clock speed, if you don't overvolt your RAM or get it really hot (I don't know how you would but idiots always find a way) then it will last for a lot longer than you want to use it no matter how fast you run it. The same with every other component.


I didn't know their were many people left that still believe that overclocking can kill your system simply because it's overclocked. The one exception is kind of motherboards because they have capacitors which can leak if they are cheap and they have a ton of stuff to keep cool but the same basic principles still apply, keep your volts and temps low and everything will work fine.
