Overclocking a 7900GS

Sorry if this has been posted before. I was fishing around and I saw this article pertaining to my graphics card, an XFX 7900GS Extreme: http://www.tweaktown.com/revie...king_prince/index.html

Looks like it OCs quite nicely. I've OCed my CPU and RAM successfully, but not my graphics card. The article suggests Coolbits, but it seesm to be an older app and I cannot find clear instructions on how to install/use it. I freeze up a bit when I'm asked to make registry entries. I'm also wondering about fan speeds, and whether with an OC I'll need to adjust those. I like the sound of a simple "find optimal settings" feature.

Anyone with recommendations on how to OC this thing...I'd love to hear from you.

TIA

Dave

Try using ATI-Tool. It's quite useful for overclocking supported nVidia cards and have the built-in artifact checker that's quite useful when stress testing cards. I've used it with my EVGA 7900GS

I've used RivaTuner and ATI tool for a 7900gs I had before. Only thing I don't like with ATI tool is that I have to boot with Disable driver signing in x64 that is.

Other than that it works greats.

It can also find the best overclock for you, has manual settings for the fan if you want.(if supported)

ATItool works for me better than ntune and riva. riva = too complicated. ntune = too bloated. atitool = just right, exits after applying setting at startup so do the job and be gone.
