overclocking a 6600 vanilla

maybe if your lucky, you have to try and find out.. unlikely he will get the memory anywhere near 1Ghz.

Absolutely not. aT LEAST NOT MY EVGA 6800NU agb. the core won't go past about 365 with any stability, and that's with both stock cooling and an nv silencer. In fact t it was the same for two cards I've owned.

Then again can't say anything about phase changers or water.

You will probably be able to reach 500 Mhz or closer for the GPU and 1 Ghz for the ram. Many people has reached those speeds easily with 6600 vanillas.
Use coolbits 2.0 and these drivers: Xtreme G HD 80.40 Nvidia Forceware
You can download them from www.guru3d.com

A 1GHz mem OC on a 6600nu? I'm skeptical since the stock mem is only 550MHz IIRC and is the inferior TSOP type.

no one with a 6600(not a 6610 variant as mentioned in NV's drivers that use 2.0ns chips that come at 400/700 or 400/800) but the 300/550 cards will NEVER reach 1ghz ram. 700mhz or so is max.
