overclocking a 650i board

hi, ive been trying to overclock this board for about 1 year now, and sometimes ti goes smoothly and then cuts out after 4 hours (blue screen) or just cuts out. has anyone had any experience with this board the 650i ultra board.
Temperatures aren't an issue as there staying around 40 degrees, ive read through the overclocking tutorial but it still doesn't work.
Also what voltages should I have my NB and SB at?
 
I have an MSI 650i P6n, and haven't had good results with overclocking either. It may just be a conflit with my OCZ 800mhz RAM, but not really worried about it to much. I plan on building a new rig about mid-late next year.
 
I had an MSI P6N and it did okay overclocking an E4300 because of the low initial FSB but otherwise wasn't that hot. I've also played around with 680i boards as well as newer 750i boards, and seems as if overclocking is hit/miss on these. Intel chipset boards just seem to do better for overclocking, IMO.

Stability-wise, all boards seem to be reasonably stable regardless of chipset, as long as they are running within spec.

A power supply that is not quite strong enough will do that.
 
I don't think the 650i nor 680i chipset are stable enough to overclock.. or even use seriously for that matter..

But that's just from my experience..

It isn't the best PSU in the world, but far from the worst.

They're fine at stock speeds. They're just finicky for overclocking unless the stars and moon line up.

My 650 based Asus P5N-E has problems overclocking a q6600 higher than 3GHz ---> just not very good with quads!

On the other hand, same mobo has no problems overclocking a E6700 to 3.6+ levels. So this is what I currently use.

High overclocking my P5N-E is definitely affected as N/B gets very hot. Which is why I fitted a 50x50mm fan onto N/B heatsink.

AFAIK, no way to know temp of 650 chipset N/B other than with third party setup ---> fortunately my Antec P160 case has built-in thermal probes which I use to monitor internal case temp and N/B heatsink temp?

I have the Asus P5N-D which is the 750i SLI. The only difference between the 750i and the 650i is that the 750i supports 2x16 PCIe 2.0. I've managed to get to almost 4GHz at 1.5 volts but the northbridge does heat up alot.🙂
