I think I have decided that my next system that I want to build next year will be a dual xeon system, using the asus pc-dl board that was made for overclocking. Looking at current prices, a 2.4 ghz xeon with 512k of cache goes for about 200 bucks, and one with 1mb of cache is 375 bucks. My hope is to get both cpus up to 3ghz or higher, and i may watercool.

So my question is, has anyone tried this with the pc-dl board? Would the 1mb cach xeon not overclock as high (despite water cooling)? Clock speed is a must since this beast will be used for rendering. Also, I don't need hyperthreading when I got 2 cpus, 2 is the max for winxp pro anyways.

Got a thread started below about duallie system...

head over to www.2cpu.com as there are plenty over there overclocking with this combo...M0 stepping p4 2.4ghz Xeons are definitely like their 800fsb northwood breteren as reports are 3.2's to 3.6ghz....I saw aircooled well to 3.4 ghz so no need to go water yet unless you really have to....

I didn't know they made the 1mb model at 2.4ghz...Is that the 1mb l3 cache one???

I am looking at possibly the 2.66ghz 512kb vesion as they are the current sweet spot....
