well i just got a 9800 xt now and it is a great card but i am having a bit of trouble overclocking it. not artifacting or nothing but other prob.
i tried to use rage3d tweak but it says no compatible adapter found so i tried riva tuner and it detected the card and i oc'd to 450/780 and the monitor in it says its there but when i go to 3dmark 2001 and run a bench especialy in the dragothic scene my peak fram rate drops from 430 to 280 and i left the clock monitor on in riva tuner on to see if the card was reseting them and it wasnt. even when i oc a little it does this same thing,, what is going on here? is it the 3.9 cats? why am i having trouble oc'ing.. seems like its reducing performance a lot even at low oc's.this dont make sence being i read reviews all over stating that the card oc's nicely. i have a 9800 pro and 9800 np and have had no probs oc'ing them.if anyone knows a fix for this i would like to know. thanx.

Maybe you should stop overclocking and realize that you paid for your habits.

The Over-throttling feature in the 3.8 and 3.9 drivers also under clock the GPU back too default ... presumably when the core gets too hot i think ATI have also implemented a town down function like Nvidia have or it could be something with your 3.9 drivers and the over clocking software used.
Somethings making your gpu go from overclocked speeds down past default and thus giving you the worse score then that at defalt clock ....... try Drivers 3.7 and see how that goes. other then that its hard too say whats wrong.

lets see what other ideas people have.

Well then, you can afford to go to google answers, and post a reward for the answer to your question, Mr. Billionaire. Make sure to tip your researcher. ;)
