so from what i read 750MHz core and 1050MHz memory is safe and very easily attainable, but what about the shader clock ?

i have the bfg oc version

i game at 16x10 and have no problems running crysis high (xp32b) everything without slowdows except when saving at a checkpoint, which i am happy with, but i want to try for better results using AA... is it worth the stress on my new card?

Don't bother!

I have a BFG with 700 / 975 / 1700 (shader) and I crysis does not play smoothly for me @ 1600 X 1200 with VERY HIGH settings, NO AA.

I have to use HIGH settings in order to have smooth game play.

For the shader clock, well, if you take a look @ the XFX or EVGA super clocked versions, you can get an idea of what the shader should be.

The right way is for you to test it with the ATITOOL and see what number you get when testing your overclock with it!
 
dont bother, really ? one review showed a potential increas of 2 FPS when overclocking the 8800 GTS 512 as far as i understood it....

crysis for me on XP is playable on all high, but no AA,, but i do feel a slowdown once in a while in a heavy fire fight... so i wanted to improve it...

in ati tools the program can slightly raise the clock by itself is that what you mean ? is it accurate >? i have been using rivatuner mostly before, not ati tools
 
Some programs (Riva, PowerStrip, ExpertTool, etc.) let you increase the shader clock proportionally with the GPU, which is probably the best (or safest) way of doing it. My 8800GTS 512 is at 700/2000, which equals a shader clock of 1748 (up from default of 1674).
 
is there noticeble increase in performance when overclocking from 675core, 1674shader, and 1940mem ? (my BFG OC factory settings)
 
Well, how's the cooling in your card?
Stock? idle temperature? Load temperature?

Mine was in the 60's @ idle and 90's during load.

Installed a Zalman VF900 and temperatures are 40-45c idle, 45-55c idle.

About the 2 FPS gain, you are right:

But that is when going from 600mzh to 700mhz!


Download Ntune (from nvidia) and change the clocks on your 8800GT.

Set the Core to 700mhz and the RAM to 1950 to start.

Start testing / playing and see if it makes a difference!
 
its the GTS so its dual slot cooling, idle hovers around 64-65 load i have not tested

basically in my case going from 675 to 725 or so or 750 even and increasing mem/shad will not improve things dramatically, 1 - 2 fps is hardly noticeble, i am still enjoying crysis with like 3 settings on medium and rest on high... as well as all the other games maxed out (cod4, ut3, ext.) i dont want ot over stress the card for not much gain and shortening its lifespan... so i thin i will stick to stock for now until a game comes out that really bogs it down at my native resolution

760/1784/1100 on mine.
I unlocked shaders from core @ 700core because they were maxxed, and got 60mhz more on core. Still testing, but it's ATItool, crysis timedemo, 3dmark 06, HGL, and CS stable so far.

I've never seen fan spin past 36% (default) and never seen temps break 78*C. Just amazing how much better this cooler is than the 8800gt's.

GPUs should be fine into the 80-90C range. I remember my X1900XT being well into that range without issue (it was a seriously hot card though).

I like to keep temps in the 60-70C range, which is very possible even when overclocked on the 8800GTS 512MB. Just set fan speed to ~50% or so, which is very tolerable IMO, and temps will drop considerably.

I have my 8800GTS 512MB overclocked to 775/1890/2160.
