overclocking 6600 (non GT)

So far, I've gone from 300mhz (core) to 500mhz and 550mhz(memory) to 650 (memory). no detectable artificat after a run of 3dmark03, which gives me >6500 score. The temp sits at about 50C idle and >60C load.

How far can I push this thing? I'm afraid to burn it out unintentionally. the memory is hynix, rated 3.6ns.

BTW, once I confirm the load temp is not too high, it is safe to leave it running at the OC rate always. That is, does the card stress under OC setting when there is not much load?

Without load temps up near 80C, and without artifacts, you can overclock until you get artifacts or overly high temps.

Artifacts or overly high temps = same thing.

Your about maxed out to what a 6600 can do. It hits GT speeds on the Core, but the mem is only that.

I have to disagree. The bulk of artifacts are caused by high temps.
But, sometimes, unlocking pipelines etc. can cause artifacts without high temperatures.

To the OP, the card should be fine at the OC'd level when idle. Some cards even downclock when in 2D mode. Im not sure if yours does this.

if no artifacts occur, keep going up. when you see some, bring each clock speed down 5-10 mhz. that should be stable enough. after a few weeks, if it is running good, you are fine.

The bulk of artifacting is caused by a to high memory overclock. If your temps are too high you'll see artifacting like you've never seen before. If this happens shut your computer off immediatly!:)

The GPU should be fine at 500mhz. But the clock limit for 3.6ns RAM 555mhz. So 650mhz is a nice overclock. Use ATItool (even though you have a nvidia card) and check for artifacts. Don't push it too far too fast.

Is there a NVIDIA equivalent of ATITOOL, which can scan artificats and monitor card temperature?
