Overclocking 260GTX vs. Overclocking 250 GTS

Does the 260 GTX have more Overclocking headroom than the 250 GTS?

Wouldn't the slower core and memory clocks @ stock speeds give the 260 GTX the advantage?

You cannot compare the two clock for clock, as they are different chips altogether.


GTS250 = g92 core

GTX260 = GT200 core

Are you asking if the GTX 260, percentagewise, generally has a higher overclocking potential than the GTS 250? If so, then yes, most GTX 260's overclock very well. In the end, Stock vs. Stock and Overclocked vs. Overclocked, the GTX 260 is always going to be much faster than the GTS 250.

Yep I am talking about OCing headroom percentage wise.

Which card is capable of a greater % OC?

Also does the %OC directly correspond to a proportional increase in performance? Or does something like a 20% OC only add 8-10% more performance (for example)

IMO the GTX 260 has more headroom than the GTS 250.

The latter, because performance depends on several factors. In general usage your measurable performance won't increase linearly with clock speeds. Of course certain applications like Folding might net you a similar increase in work units, but stuff like gaming will not.
