please help me to overclock my palomino <1700+>.i'm using 8RDA+ Mobo, Apacer PC2100 256mb CL2 <chip Nanya>.help me please 😕

palominos are'nt the best over clockers, but using your 8RDA bios to modify the FSB speed would be the easiest way. Set the FSB in bios to about 140MHz. Nanya is not the best overclocking ram because I beleive it has very aggressive timmings (2.0-2-2-6 by default I beleive).

Have you unlocked the L1 bridges?

Oh, and welcome to the AT Forums!!

thanx for the guide 🙂.no, i haven't unlock the L1 bridges.
i'm afraid, i will broke it out.is 140 mhz will make my system stable??
i already overclock my CPU to 140 mhz but when i install windows XP/ME.
my system become error.. why is that?
is Windows XP/ME installer refuse to install properly when i overclock my CPU??

thanks for your greetings 🙂

<i'm sorry, my grammar is not too good 🙁 >

Do not overclock when installing an OS. Try overclocking after the installation of OS & programs. Raise the VCore and loosen the memory timings to make it more stable.

Yes, you might raise your vcore a bit if it is unstable. Nanya does not overclock very well, so you might unlock your processor by connecting the L1 bridges with conductive defroster repair kit method, and overclock by multiplier instead of FSB speed.

what type of hs/fan cooler are you using?

is it always happen to everyone while you overclock CPU/ it just my system??
My CPU is too hot <47 idle,54 full load>.so i'm afraid too raise the Vcore.

Nanya does not overclock very well
hmmp... i see.so which ram is recommended for overclocking?

i have the other ram <vgen pc2100 256mb and visipro pc2700 256mb>
if i put the three together. is it going stable?

so which method should i choose??140mhz fsb/unlocking L1 bridge and raise the multiplier?

That 54c is not too hot actually...Should be fine since when you are installing and doing most things that full load isn't reached...

With you r ram you would probably be better to raise the multplier and not mess with the fsb sinceit will take agp/pci out of spec and the ram may not like it or require looser timings....If this was a tbred-b many would set the fsb to 166 since then the 1/5 divider kicks in and keeps agp/pci in spec, however most would be running pc2700 or better to do it....

For you to get to 1666mhz as 0roo0roo suggested you wuld be running 152fsb and that would mean possibly 304mhz or pc2400 standards...so maybe the pc2100 wont cut it....downsizing the divider to make it run memory lower is a waste in my opinion and be worse then if you were running the system at same speed but with 133fsb and a higher multiplier...

i heard rumor, that Epox 8RDA+<mine> can lock agp and pci frequency<i'm not sure about PCI Lock Feature, but i'm quite sure about AGP Lock feature. The setting is applicable in BIOS>, and in my BIOS there are setting to set Memory frequency <50%, 60%, 66%, 75%, 80%, 85%, 100%/Sync, 120%, 125%, 133%, 150%, 166%, 200%>.

in this case, i can set my FSB to 152mhz then set my Memory frequency to 129mhz<using divider 85%>,
Lock My AGP frequency to 66 mhz, and using PCI Lock to lock my PCI Frequency. can it be?

now, i'm using this setting:
FSB:146 mhz(x11)=1606
Vcore : 1.8v
Vdimm : 2.77v

i'm using Super PI to check stability<16k-4m test>
and i think my system is stable

is someone know a program that can read PCI and AGP frequency?

You don't unless you buy used. Anyway my 1600+ Pally does 2100+(1.74Ghz) at default voltage(166FSB). I am running a Epox 8k3a+. Will be getting a 8RDA+ Wednesday so I am hoping to push it to its max since Nforce 2 has AGP/PCI lock.

The 1700+ pally's must not overclock as well.

why would you want to buy a palo? its worthless considering the newer 1800+ dlt3c or jixhb's hit 2.4+ and 2.5+ ghz easily on air😛 seems frys is starting to sell the jixhb too now.. 69 with ecs m/b with retail cpu. hard to beat.
