Hey Everyone,
Well I have figured out what I am going to put in my machine from all the help of your guys suggestions. Tell me what you think about this combo
Asus A7N8X Deluxe Mother Board
Xp1700 or XP2100 for Overclocking. Or an Xp2500
80 Gig Maxtor 7200 At133 Hard Drive
Kingston PC3000 512 Hyper X Ram
SLK-800 Heat Sink
and the Good Tornado Fan to keep the the processor cool.

I was debating on the Epox 8RDA+ motherboard too, if you guys think that is a better route let me know. Also, I am debating big time which processor to get. I can afford an XP2400 or XP2500,but I would rather spend less and overclock comfortably. Let me know what you guys think about this Mix up.
Thanks
Frank S

imo, i'd get the Abit NF7-S because of its VDD chipset option
and i would go with either a 1700+ or 2500+
the 1700+ are capable of hittting high speeds as demonstrated by my 1700+ that hit 2.5GHz. not bad for a chip that cost me 57 bucks
on the other hand the 2500+ can achieve higher performance in certain applications even at a lower clockspeed bcause of its extra cache

 All fine. The XP1700+, XP2100+ & XP2500+ will all achieve about the same perf when o/c'ed so it makes most sense to go for the XP1700+ ... just ensure it is TbredB. Regarding the RAM, PC2700 is all you actaully need for practicly optimal perf even at XP2800+ speeds BUT since PC3200 hardly costs any more it makes sense to grab it as you get better future proofing and can run at 400mhz+ or slower with VERY fast timings! PC3000 is NOT a valid spec, it is alledgedly 'hand-picked' PC2700 'known' top o/c well BUT any decent brand of PC2700 (eg Crucial, TwinMOS etc) shoud achieve PC3000 speeds anyway, either get PC2700 or PC3200. You don't need it 'matched' nor low latency either, put your cash to better use IMHO. A7N8X Deluxe is an excellent mobo and you simply don;t need the extra stuff (or price) of anything else, all the top nForce2 mobos are great buys but I'd still say A7N8X is tops and generally well priced.

Ive got a similar rig but....
Drop the Maxtor and go for a IBM/Hitachi deskstar HD
Go for Corsair CL2 PC3200 Twinx DDR, I'm real sorry i didn't.
The xp2500 has 512kb L2 cache as far as i know, so i recon its better.

good luck

My new 8RDA+ with the C1 stepping chipset is at 209x11=2300 @1.7v The 8RDA+ boards without the C1 chipset are hit or miss as to whether they will do 200fsb. My hyperx ram is a good value too. I got my cpu from excaliberpc. It is a 1.5v "L" chip

 TbredB chips using the A__B stepping (used in XP2100+ and higher) seem to attain higher o/c's on average than the J__B stepping ones (XP1700+ & XP1800+) although it seems most XP1700+ still easily achieve XP2700+ speeds anyway. The Barton CPUs gain about 5% perf clock for clock compared to the TbredB BUT you are less likely to attain the fastest FSB speeds and they don't seem as happy to run as fast as the TbredB and hence are therefore SLOWER overall. Many things (eg games) show less than 1% perf gains from double the L2 cache so it would still seem that TbredB of XP1700+ or XP2100+ are the best moves for o/c'ers. As a side note PC3200 is not needed at all as 400FSB is more for bragging than actual perf gains, you are only likely to gain 2-3% more speed overall by running 400+400 over 333+333 (FSB+DDR) and not only that but mobos, RAM etc are all cheaper if you are happy close to 333mhz speeds PLUS RAM is easy to find now that can run at 333mhz with fast RAM timings and thus this offsets the perf diff from 400FSB anyway. I see far too many people going for pure numbers and paying over the odds for the priviledge when IMHO they'd be better off investing elsewhere for perf gains. Just food for thought...
