overclockers, NEED YOUR HELP!

would it be more benificial to set my CAS to 2.5 and overclock to 2.4 ghz, or leave CAS at 2 and leave my OC at 2.3? which is more benificial to the X2 because ive read that sometimes tigher ram settings are better than ocing.

with the A64, cpu clockspeed matters far more than memory timing, due to its memory controller, so go for max cpu overclock whenever possible.

You can always use a memory divider if your cpu can OC much higher than your memory, as the performance penalty for using memory divider on the A64 is negligible for the same reason above. Eitherway, you're unlikely to see much if any difference in real world applications, so just go for the max cpu oc 🙂

go with what kyp said. definately get as high a cpu clock as you can, and then worry about memory later.

You can definetly OC higher than 2.4.

First of all, give your memory 2.8-2.9v instead of stock- that alone may allow you to keep all your settings as they are with CAS 2.5 and OC to 2.4.

Now, that being said- you can get higher than 2.4 easily probably. Figure out how to use the memory dividers to run the memory at a lower speed than the FSB, and with aggressive timings. For the most part- tight timings are what benefits AMDs the most, as opposed to high speeds.

Let us know any specific questions you may have with BIOS settings.

Also, if you don't have it already, download the "CPU-Z" utility.

I would also suggest you find out the highest your CPU can go first before deciding what to do with your memory. A good way to do this is to choose a very low divider in bios to make sure the ram will run under-spec while you're figuring out the cpu's max OC.

Once you figure out the max oc for your cpu, then you can go and see which memory configuration will let you get as close to your max cpu oc.

the crappy MSI board is no good for ocing im slowly figuring out. THe max FSB i can set is 230, and thats with x6 mulit and 100mhz ram settings. They didnt give me much to work with. anyone here live in jersey! haha
