I have been considering the GA-7VRXP, but wanted overheat shutdown protection built into the board, so i fired off an email to gigabyte. I just got their reply. Here's what I got from them (including my original message):

I am interested in your 7VRXP board, but would like to have a thermal
protection feature.

On tom's hardware, I read: "AMD got down to the problem of thermal
protection and came up with a simple switch mechanism. This IC logic is
to be integrated on all motherboards starting June 10, 2002 - as long as
the individual motherboard manufacturers want to get direct support from
AMD"

I was wondering if this switch is going to be integrated into the 7VRXP
at any point, or does this only apply to new motherboard designs?. I
could wait for a while if the thermal protection on the 7VRXP is in the
works, otherwise i may go with something else.

thank you,
Avrom.

Hello,

Yes, we have already designed the thermal protection circuit on the
GA-7VRXP Rev 2.0. It will begin shipping in mid-late June.

So I think it may be worth waiting a few weeks for the revised board to show up. :)

Hmmmm...very interesting :) Anybody have any information on other manufacturers, such as MSI or Epox having similar plans? Also, I wonder if Rev 2.0 will fix the BIOS problems so many people are having...
