Overclocked my CPU, 3DMark05 scores dropped?

Hey

I have a AMD64 3000+ overclocked from 1.8ghz to 2.4ghz. It's stable and the temps don't go above 45 under load. I haven't overclocked my 7800GT at all and before overclocking my CPU I was getting scores around 6800, since the overclock they are around 6600.
I know overclocking the CPU isn't going to have a massive difference on 3DMark scores but I didn't expect them to drop especially considering my PCMark scores jumed up by about 600. I have exactly the same drivers and settings etc and I know it isn't a massive difference but I was wondering if anyone knew a possible reason for this?

I'm new to overclocking so don't have a ton of experience to know the possibilities, thanks in advance.

Overclocking the cpu would have a minimal benefit on 3dmark scores, but I'm pretty sure RAM read/write speed could affect them a lot. When you OCed the cpu, did you run a ram divider or loosen the timings? If so, i think the slower ram is the reason. But I'm not that experienced, thats just my best guess.

thanks for the reply.

yea I'm running a ram divider but with the overclock it's still running at 220mhz where as before it was 200 and I'm getting better marks when I benchmark the ram on everest.

Try running like 250 FSB to keep your memory closer to stock and see what you get just for giggles

ok, I set everything back to stock and ran 3DMark05 again, my results wernt that different but the overclocked system still scored 100 less than the non overclocked system. My CPU score for the overclocked one was 1000 more, but the final 3DMark05 score was still less.

When I add up the total number of fps in the GPU tests, the difference between them is 0.7 fps in favor of the non overclocked system... I can't belive that a 0.7 increase = 100 marks even when the CPU is actually 1000 marks lower?

Here is a screenshot of the results if it helps...

The only other possibility was mentioned. You must have knocked down your RAM timings in order to lose some FPS despite an increase in clock speed... 3DMark is pretty much crap anyway, the new "CPU Mark" addition into the score is still nearly irrelevant as you can see. Download CPU-Z and run that to check your Memory speed/timings. You may be using the divider incorrectly and downclocking your RAM =) Other than that... I can't see how you could possibly lose points.

Yea, I've been messing around with it a bit this morning, I tried the 82.12 drivers instead and got a much better increase. 6774 without the overclock and 6991 with the overclock. Maybe it was something about the drivers holding it back because that's all I changed, although I can't see how... I guess that's computers for you.

Thanks for the help guys
