Overclocked my C2D system to 2.8gigs with stocked coolers and 3 fans

Hi Guys,

This forum has been my biggest motivator and educator in the field of OC Science .

thanks to all for the wonderfull and truth filled figures of OCed specs, i did not believed in the first place but now i can say C2D chips are built for OCing ...

my System config.....

E6300 @ 2.8 gigs and vcore at 1.425 volts
RAM transcend 667 mhz JM338888Q664433A--6 @ 800mhz, volt 2.1
CPU FSB 267 @ 400mhz volts MCP-- 1.3v

i have achieved this with Stocked Coolers and 3 fans. !!!!!!

looking at the pics you can notice one thing, that the core temp for CPU is running at 66deg

i do not know whether it can cause any problem or not, if u guys suggest me to revert back then i will do so ??

the system temp is at 30deg and the GPU is at 47deg

the most amazing thing is that my RAM is OCing like hell, i never expected it to run in that manner, looks like i got one hell of a RAM here

if you guys notice my MOBO info pic it states that i am using nforce 590i series but i am not...

my MOBO is BFG nvidia nforce 680i SLI, i dont know why it is showing that info??.

well i think i achieved something today by OCing my system for the first time and i have all ready put my system on stress test using Prime95.

and one more thing my previous vague tries (say around two times i tried with some guessed settings --- remember that i am novice in here ) have failed miserably. only today it started working.

i would like to know if anything is wrong in here and if so then i will revert back..

I can't imagine you need that much vcore for just 400FSB. You should really drop it down to 1.35 or 1.375 and try it there. Should help drop your temps some. Also check to see if there's an option in your bios to disable any Smartfan type setup to make your HSF run at 100%. Don't know if you have a noise issue but I disabled mine and there's no difference in noise and it dropped my temps by about 10C.

That is a bit high for that low of speed..Also 1.425v seems a bit high for 2.8ghz as well..try lower vcore at this point. Most can do this speed at stock voltage of 1.3-1.35v...This well help reduce temps...should get that below 60c....I have seen above 70c w/ giving my kentsfield 1.425v or greater throttle at 70c of core temp..


regardless of if you turn it off in the bios or not the damn thing will still throttle..You cannot turn off TM1....

Get rightmark utility program to show this....Multiplier will dynamicly shift to half of default for a period of time to cool the chip and then go back to what was set until it hits that temp again.....

i will do that right away, but i thought it would not OC until i increase my C2D core volt.

So then i should be able to OC to the same with 1.35.. i will let u know the results soon.

i will assume that i need not have to revert back to stock speed, is that right??

No need to change any other settings to make it work, just drop the voltage down.

I was completely stable at 1.35v when I was at 400FSB.

First of all, way too much voltage as state previously. Second, there's a new cpu-z which takes care of the new 680i identification.
Drop your voltage down some, and your temps should get better. Most people are getting some insane overclocks on that board.

I'm running my e6300 at 2.8GHz (400 fsb) and 1.30 Vcore (set to 1.375V in BIOS due to Vdroop). Temps: idle = 42C, load = 53C

You should be able to overclock the e6300 at a much lower Vcore setting than you are using as others have noted.

yep, don't change anything but the Vcore.
