I'm having some issues with my overclocking process. I'm kinda new to it but have read a lot about overclocking the C2D's. I built the pc this weekend and immediately changed just the FSB to 400 and everything worked fine - ran Prime for 24 hours with no errors. I am in the process of trying to get to 4GHz but when changing the FSB to 410 it wont get pased the post and I need to clear the CMOS to get back into BIOS. I tried changing the cpu voltage but I still get stuck trying to post. I've also played with the memory voltage but that also fails. I've set the timings to 5-5-5-15 and tried them at auto - neither result helped. I'm thinking that I'm close but need some guidance as what to look at next to help get the post to complete. I can post a pic of the post later today but it see's the CPU and sees the 4G of memory but it doesn't seem to understand what kind of memory it is (if that makes sense).

Also is there a good read on when to change voltages or when not too - and when the north/south voltages might need to be changed?

Thanks,
Jer

I will not be much help for you but can only tell you I am at almost the same position as you. I did the same shortly after getting my system up I just kept everything at stock and took the FSB to 400 for a day things were good. Temps were low then went to try 500 no go and went down all the way to 410 and had to raise volts to get stable. I found after a week of playin I am still at 410 but stable. I am only slightly above rated speed after vdroop at 1.25v. I know others are really bumping volts but I want to be safe and pick something to run 24/7. If I get time this week I will experiment some but without raising voltage 410 might be where you are. Others that have had these for some weeks need to chime in. We may be missing some bios thing or something. I also think these guys are turning off speedstep because mine keeps defaulting back down to a 6 multiplier from the standard 9. I have my mem a auto and my Balistic are 4-4-4-12 and they show 5-5-5-18 with 2.2v.
Come on guys help jerran out!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for those links - I've come to the conclusion that it has to do with the memory and its timings or voltage. I'll play around tonight with those settings see what gives.
