Overclockable 1GB DDR400 dimms?

Can anyone recommend or help me find 2 high performance 1GB DIMMs for my upcoming system? I would like to stay at or under $270.

I found these at Monarch, but cant seem to find *any* reviews or comments on them:

These are a lot cheaper and I have heard comments of DDR430 @ CL2.5 with some volts:

I would prefer 2x1GB dimms for future upgradability reasons. However I would also entertain the notion of 4x512MB dimms *if* I could run them 1:1 at around 255Mhz FSB on a DFI NF4 Ultra-D. This means DDR510 and without active cooling. I'm not terribly confident about the Venice/San Diego's memory controller's ability to run 4 dimms @ 510mhz, which is another reason why I'm leaning towards the 2x1GB setup.

So, in order of importance I'm looking for:
1. Comments or suggestions for overclockable 1GB ddr400 dimms.
2. Comments or suggestions on Venice or Sandiego's ability to run 4 512MB dimms at 510Mhz.

Help is greatly appreciated:)

1. You dont need 2 GB of ram.
2. 2 GB of ram will do lets say, 3-3-3 which is terible. 2.5-3-3 would be equal to 3-3-3 if it was running at 180 fsb.
3. HL2 users around 700 mb of ram with everything maxed out.
4. Obviously 1 GB sticks would oc like crap. For $270, I would spend $100 and get some Twinmos or Mushkin Blueline UTT if your getting the DFI board.

*sigh* Please dont tell me what I need. I appreciate the willingness to help, but I dont appreciate the arrogance.

For one, I dont game an ounce. The extra RAM is going to be used for heavy RAW file editing/processing and heavy photoshop work. 1GB is not adequate for what I do and since 1.5GB isnt an option (3 sticks of ram), then I'm buying 2GB.

I know that 2GB of RAM will not give me the maximum memory speed attainable. I understand this. For me, the extra memory capacity far outweighs the decrease in memory speed.

Back to the original question - I would prefer to use only two sticks of RAM for this. The only way getting 4 sticks would be worth the compromise was if they could run at a speed significantly higher than 400mhz. I have seen one isolated case of 510mhz x 4 sticks, but thats not enough evidence for to take the "plunge" so to speak. This guy used very expensive OCZ memory that is out of my price range anyway.

Myabe you should of said all that in your main post?????]

Good luck with getting your 255 fsb 1:1.

Even if you somehow manage that, it would probably be with very sloppy timmings.

I dont know about raw file editing but photoshop works fine on 1 gb for me.

Do what you'd like.

You have a DFI motherboard so go with 4 sticks of Twinmos. I don't think you need active cooling if you keep the volts under 3.2. You could get overclockable 1gb sticks but the price is way out of your budget for $270 total?

For 2x1gb, either Kingston HyperX or OCZ Titanium series. And you tell them, I hate it when people try and tell me what I do and don't need. You are far better qualified to know what you don't need, if you are reasonably competent wiht computer hardware.

I warn you though, 2x1024mb enhanced latency sticks will be EXPENSIVE. Unless you crave speed, value ram is your choice here.

I'm going to start a thread about which components to use in a PC i'm building.

I dont game at all.


You'll probably get reccomended things like 6800Ultras and X850XTs.

If a guy asks for a 1gb stick of memory, it's more logical to assume he will need it than assuming he won't need it because of the fact that he asked for it. And besides, need it or not, he wants it. This isn't communism, if you want something, you have every right to get it if you have the money.

Yeah, I was looking at those very same sticks. I decided I might want a little more performance, hence considering the 4x512MB sticks. I suspect that the Geil sticks wont overclock *that* much - just forget tight timings. Theyre still an option, I'm just seeing if there is anything better.

I just ordered a pair of low latency patriots for Photoshop and After Effects work
they are CAS 2 if you are interested. Haven't tested them out yet but could be worth a look as they are cheaper that the OCZ and Corsairs

2 Gb Patriots

4x Twinmos UTT would run you around $210.

UTT with 2 sticks does usualy 240-275 fsb with 2-2-2-5 timmings.

It needs around 3.4V.

My 2 cents.

So would you recommend heatspreaders, a fan blowing on the dimms, or both at that voltage?

(I've never done this before)
