Im getting a new cpu and Im favouring the high Mhz of the 2600/2700+ running at 333Mhz FSB over the barton 2500+ with the extra cache. Has anyone had much luck overclocking the 2600/2700+ to 400Mhz FSB with the nforce2 boards like abit nf7-s? Do the bartons always reach 400Mhz FSB? Any info would be HIGHLY appreciated, thanks!

let me try to answer your question

it seems that a lot of the 333 fsb processors the barton or the tbred 2600/2700 are having issues with hitting the 200 mhz fsb mark on the abit nf7-s (i dunno about the other nforce2 boards)

what you have to do is cut the 3rd L12 bridge in order to trick the mobo into thinking it's a 266 fsb processor and after that... voila! you should be over to hit over 200 mhz with no problems at all...

Where did you hear that Shimmish?

regarding the 333 fsb processor running 200 fsb this problem first occured with the early abit nforce 2's . first read about this over at xtreme forums

i havent seen this as a case for the bartons but some still say it happens to them while it doesnt happen to others

if your looking to overclock i would go with the barton

my nforce 2 board is currently testing at 230 fsb with prime running. 3dmark is stable at 232 fsb but prime will fail me

i'm beginning to like ocz pc3700 memory at timings of 5 2 2 2 ........voltage is a bit high for these timings

Thanks for the input, hmm looks like barton may be the way to go then... basically all I want to do is hit past the 2ghz mark on a 400Mhz FSB, obviously faster if I can get it. My ram is up to the task, just undecided on damn cpu. Do all 2500+ reliably hit 200Mhz fsb and past 2 Ghz, whats the minimum overclock I can expect?

The first day I got my Barton and A7N8X I had it running on a 221 Mhz FSB with no stability issues at 2.21 Ghz. I used 221 cause of RAM issues at the time, PC2700 junk, had to run it at 75%. But anyway... I'd go with a Barton over a T-Bred also... mainly because the XP2500 is under $100 now, 2.2 Ghz is a common overclock, as opposed to 2.4 for a regular T-Bred B... but I'd rather have the extra cache the Barton brings than the extra 200 mhz you can get from a T-Bred B.
