Overclock the 6800 Ultra

Anyone have a 6800 Ultra OC'ed. I know the memory starts at 1100 and core at 400. What has everyone acheived with this card? Also How are PNY cards?

my friend has the BFG card and he has it at 460/1250, but its with water cooling.

The Ultra can Oc pretty good since it has a different power supply arrangement to get more current to the GPU to maintain the higher clock speeds. It has 2 molex connectors and more "beefy" voltage regulation circuitry. It provides 1.4v to the GPU (1.3v on the GT) and since this generates more heat, it has a larger heatsink. It also uses 1.6ns memory instead of the 2.0ns memory on the GT's.

Because 6800 farcry performance sucks donkey balls.

And I presume you have links that show much higher performance on OCd 6800Us, or are you just having fun hating nVidia?

nah, he is just another troll in the video forums.

If I had a 6800 I would OC it forsure. The only reason why I dont OC my x800 pro is because im running the Zalman Dual Heat Pipe and I still need to get the optional Fan.

No, but this is a simple example of a case where the 6800s "cutting edge" performance isn't good enough. My overclock helps my framerate by about 15%.

With SM 3.0 ATi still has the edge but I wouldn't say the 6800 line sucks donkey balls. ATi OTOH sucks donkey balls in Doom III.

My slightly overclocked 9800 Pro is playing Doom 3 really well BFG (nice framerates, excellent IQ). I can't complain a bit.

When the 6800 is capable of beating a X800XT there really isn't much to discuss. The X800 sucks at Doom 3 as badly as the NV3x sucked for shaders.

Please...I am living proof that the 9800 Pro cannot hold the 6800GT's jock when it comes to Doom3...I played Doom3 originally with a 9800 Pro overclocked 441/792 and 1024x768 0xAA 8xAF was the best it would do and it would only do about 55-60fps at that...while that may be decent for an old card I wouldn't characterize it as "well" - adequate is more like it...

I now run Doom3 with a Gainward GS Dual DVI 6800GT (420/1200) at 1600x1200 4xAA 8xAA and I get around 65fps...the difference is huge...

I don't think the XTPE is bad for Doom 3. Though the x800 Pro I will agree with you. In firingsquad's latest benchmark the XTPE isn't very far behind on High Quality. The gap is larger in Farcry the other way around.

I don't think that is the case anymore after the cats 4.9.

My problem is that my GT is getting half of what the benchmark values are. On the x800 cards I have played the game on it feels much more smooth and has a much higher minimum framerate.

Why did you buy an Nvidia card? I thought you preferred ATI?

If you are talking to me, I bought my 6800 GT because I got it for $300. The GT looked better than the $400 x800 Pros that were available at the time as well. Other than Farcry, I am very pleased with my card despite a mediocre overclock.

Who has time for sleep? Between the 6800GT and my 14" manhood I have no time for such a thing...

Lol, good comeback. I'll be getting a 6600GT when they are released in AGP format. This 9800 Pro is doing fine in the meantime. It is actually limited by my CRT, it looks grainy above 1152x864.

I need a 21" CRT more than I need a new video card. 😱
