Overclock setting revert back to default randomly

ok so this is like the third time this has happened over the last few months. The first two times i guess i just thought i must have changed the settings myself and forgot about it. This time i just went and checked out what my CPU was running at and sure enough there back to default.

I think it might happen when my computer gets unplugged? Or could booting OSX mess something up. It messes up my time everytime i do it so could that have something to do with it?
 
run mem test, I had that issue when my old crucial ram started to fail. If the memory is ok, run the typical system stability tests to be sure your overclock is still stable.
 
power outage will sometimes reset your computer.

So will a failed overclocking.
