hi everyone,

i received my X2 4800+ yesterday and slapped that baby in. i started overclocking immediately. i tried various combinations. here are some results. luckily i was able to get this processor before they became out of stock at newegg and zipzoomfly.

default CPU 200 x 12 = 2400
default RAM 200 x 2 = DDR400
default HTT 200 x 5 = 1000
voltage default

overclock CPU 225 x 12 = 2700
overclock RAM 225 x 2 = DDR450
overclock HTT 225 x 4 = 900
voltage = 1.38

overclock CPU 250 x 11 = 2750
overclock RAM 250 x 11 = DDR500
overclock HTT 250 x 4 = 1000
voltage = 1.42

overclock CPU 234 x 12 = 2808 @ 1.5v but windows would crash and reboot.

for the last successful overclock, i had some stability problems until i bumped up the voltage a notch. the CPU temp rose from 36 C to about 45C during full load. i threw everything i could at it. i ran superpi while running a bunch of programs in the background and the CPU didn't seem to flinch. i didn't set affinity for superpi. i noticed the processor utilization nearly reached 100% at times. is this normal?

i don't think 2800 is possible unless there is something else i need to do to achieve a stable overclock at this frequency. please assist if possible.

also, i installed the amd optimizer and driver. did not install the xp patch though. :)

I would say for gaming it would be best to keep at 2700, 50MHz for 0.4V more is not worth it.
But for apps where memory speed is extremely important, you may want you get the 1.42V oc.

Also, try with lower multipliers if they go higher.

Overclocking any processor is that way. Once you hit the "wall", every little bit of clockspeed increase requires huge amounts of voltage to be stable. Keep it at 2.7 Ghz, with the highest memory speed you can achieve. And don't forget to test for stability, with Orthos, with it set to Blend.

i'm going to try 270 x 10 = 2700. i am happy with 2.7 GHz anyways. my last processor was a venice 3200+ and i had it clocked to 2.7 also and it ran extremely well and stable.
my memory is very good and can handle 270 DDR540. but if you recommend lower multipliers i can give that a try as well.
