I have my q6600 overclocked to 3.0ghz (334mhz x 9)

I want to know what fsb my RAM should be running at? 800mhz?

Thanks in advance.

abit ip35 pro
intel q6600
crucial ballistix (1GB x 2) DDR2 800 (PC6400)
zalman 9700

it is going to depend on what you have your RAM multiplier set at... A 2x ram multi it will run your ram at 668, 2.5 = 835, 3 = 1002 etc..

Yeh, I was about to say if you wanted your memory and cpu going at 1:1 you'd want 668MHz. 1:1 is meant to be the most stable I believe

Ok, so my question is which speed would be best for performance? 668 (1:1) or should I go higher (not 1:1)

Or should I try to OC to 3.4 to run my ram at 800mhz 1:1?

Are there any benchmarks showing actual performance improvement if you go with 666Mhz RAM FSB and therefore 1:1 ratio as opposed to 800Mhz RAM FSB and 5:6 ratio? Is 666Mhz ram with 1:1 really faster than 800Mhz ram with 5:6?

Just keep everything at a 1:1 ratio. I have my friend's build (Q6600 G0 / Ultra 120-Extreme with Patriot eXtreme DDR2 800) overclocked to 3.61GHz (400 x 9 @ 1.50v) with the RAM at 400Mhz @ 2.1v (1:1 with CPU). Idle temps are at about 39C so it should be fine for the meantime.

When I was OCing my quad and tweaking the RAM the performance increased by a fair margin by boosting the RAM timing.... Going from 2x to 2.5x ram multi was worth about 300 points in 3dMark06, Right now I am running the system at 9x350 (3.15) with a 3x ram multi (1050), no glitches, nothing funky going on... it's solid & reasonably cool (core 1 stays around 50 degrees when I am working a large model).

OTOH I don't think it is really worth a large premium to run your ram faster, but it is worth a try.

I would OC the ram as high as you can get it. From what I have read in the early posts, conroe LOVES bandwidth.

If you want to run 1:1 then lower the multiplier to 8 and use a 400MHz FSB for 3.2GHz, if you can OC that much, if not settle for 380. That should give up to a 5% boost over a 333MHz FSB and ram speed.
