I've been trying to overclock my system for a while now, all sorts of tricks but no luck at all, I think I found what the problem is....... bottom

"If you run your motherboard a little faster than 100Mhz, you are effectively overclocking your PCI devices. So if you are running at 112Mhz, your PCI devices are running at 112Mhz/3= 37.5Mhz. Most PCI devices don't mind this at all, but some do. For instance, Maxtor hard drives generally do not like this at all and often trash themselves complaining about it. " OVERCLOCKERS.COM"

Anyone out there using the same hard drive like mine

2 MAXTOR 20/40GB 7200RPM

I use to have Western Digital HD 13GB(sold) and had no problems at all overclocking...

SPECS ARE:

Dual Boot using System Commander 2000
PIII 700 Mhz Slot 1
Asus P3V4X bios 1005
Asus GeForce256
PC100 256SDRAM (2,2,2,5)
Maxtor 20GB 7200 (NTFS for Win2000 Pro)
Maxtor 40GB 72oo (FAT32 for Win98SE)
Creative Sounblaster Live
Plextor 12x10x32
Creative 52x CDrom

Any tips.......to overclock

Thanks

Mike

I have a 30GB Maxtor that runs fine at 111FSB on my AMD 900 A7V setup.

I have several Maxtor drives and here are the fastest PCI bus speeds I could get them to work reliably:

20GB 7200 RPM = 34.7 MHz
7.2GB 5400 RPM = 37.5 MHz
6.8GB 5400 RPM = 34.7 MHz
6.8GB 5400 RPM = 37.5 MHz

It looks like there's a pattern there.

4 of my 6 WD drives work OK at 41 MHz, but 2 will only go as high as 37.5 MHz.
