Overclock/Overvoltage Failure Message

I'm seeing a Overclocked/Overvoltage Failure message at POST on a 5-year-old machine. I went into the BIOS and changed the AI Overclocking setting from the default Auto to Standard, and that seems to have eliminated the problem. Any thoughts on what's going on? Maybe with capacitor aging the settings that worked OK for 5 years no longer work?
