My motherboard (ABIT AN7) has an option to "Overclock on the fly" in the BIOS. What does this settings do exactly. Please don't say "Um....It overclocks your computer....duuuurrrr!"

I'm wondering exactly what it does. And how it would be different from me just changing the BIOS settings for overclocking myself.

Thanks.

A simple search found this info:

"With regards to overclocking, Abit allows you to overclock on the fly- meaning you can implement the new overclocked setting within the BIOS immediately without needing to save and reboot- definitely a big plus"

I think it has to do with overclocking when applications demand for it, almost like ASUS Cool and Quiet technology. Once you have OC your your CPU, RAM and have set the voltage, the system will run accordingly depending on application. If you're not doing anything, it will run at minimal settings, if you run something that demands more power, the system will automatically adjust. At least that's what I think it is, not researched, but more like an edumacated guess. ;)
