Overclock not stable when adding 1024mb, 2x512

So this board automaticaly downclocks the speed to ddr333 if there are 4 sticks of 512mb ram in there. I knew this would happen, but didn't think it wouldn't be to much trouble, since I run my ram at a divider, 266mhz, which made the effective speed of my ram around 370ddr, instead of 400. Big deal, right ?

But now I'm getting randomn BSODS, sometimes in Windows, and in games more often then not, quite fast. 3dmark06 would also crap out during the cpu test. So I relaxed the timings, up to 3-15-5-5. There's a bunch of other timings in the bios, and well, I haven't written them down be4, but I would swear they are lower then they used to be. In fact, when I reverted all the BIOS settings back to default, the ram timings were like 2-7-3-3, even tho the ram is rated at cas2.5 ?

I relaxed the 'other' timings as well, I really want to keep this x2 3800 + oc-ed at 2.6ghz. I might settle for 2.4ghz, but no lower !!! So I need help, suggestions, whatever you got to offer :p

- edit: Hmz, at 2.5ghz, multi 10, fsb 250, it seems to be stable, the ram is at 333mhz effective speed, which is exactly at what the mobo will set it at at default. Perhaps it simply won't/can't do over 333mhz with 4 sticks of 512mb in there ? I seem to have read that it depends on the stepping of your cpu though, and E6 being the latest, it shouldn't actually have problems with doing 4 x 512 @ 400ddr. So what the fluff ?

Suggestion still welcome. My bios revision is 1003, after checking again, it's the latest asus has to offer.

I think it's your board. Some mb's can't get enough "juice" to all 4 sockets when occupied. I had an ASUS A8N-SLI-Deluxe that you could clock like crazy with 4 X 512 PC4000. I had a Gigabyte board that couldn't (or wouldn't,just to be ornry). Now the Gigabyte board would only push 2.7v max to the memory and I usually ran that stuff at 2.8. Beats me

PS: Try sticking 2.9v to it. That should be safe.

I also have a E6 3800+ x2 i had 2x1GB sticks and 2x512 sticks all of same exact brand ram. It would run and detect it, but when i went to overclock it BSOD'ed alot. I found out when i switched it to 2t over 1t (much slower) it worked fine for the overclock, but my ram was preforming alot worse on 2T timings. So i took out the 2x512 sticks. I have Corsair CMX-3200 ram stock timings are 3-3-3-8 and i have it set at 2-3-3-5 1T no problems (CPU @ 2.7Ghz 1.48 vcore, ram @ 225Mhz (450) 2-3-3-5 1T i run the divider at 166Mhz)
