Overclock/Mod for 9500 Pro?

I have the bios which allows overclocking and not shy about flashing things (have done mobos) but I have never overclocked a video card. I still have old Riva 128 PCI (I knew that would come in handy someday) so I can reflash with old bios if things go wrong. What I need to know is what settings are reasonable? What is "stock" for 9700 Pro? Should I expect that? Also I'm seeing a lot about software "mods". Should I check those out? Information appreciated.

Other than voltage mods to raise the stock voltage for the gpu and ram, there isn't any other mods available. The 9700 Pro comes with default speeds of 325/310(620). Most of the R300 cores hit 375-390MHz with stock cooling. Your 9500 Pro ram speeds will depend on your speed rating. 3.6ns should get you close to 310, 3.3ns maybe 325 on an ATI card.

I would suggest a speed of 300/300 for the 9500Pro. I have tried my core over 300 but it adds little to performace...perhaps I am CPU limited. The memory will run to about 310, but I like to keep things safe at 300/300.
