Are there any pieces of software out there to overclock it? That or any other utilities for tweaking etc.? I've been using aticellerator and it seems to work pretty nicely.

I think it's technically possible, but not very advisable. Remember, the CPU generates the most heat inside that case.

I think it requires a solder iron and pulling the iBook apart to do it (like the old days on PC's).

Sorry, there's only OC software for the G3 iBook models (iCook). It may be possible to overclock the G4 by cutting through some resistors, but i couldn't find any documentation on the usual websites.

I saw an article in MacAddict or something recently that took the mini and boosted it from like 1.2 to 1.67? or so. I am under the assumption that they are close to each other internally. Maybe look up mini oc'ing. I remember it was soldering some resistors.

Yes the mini-overclocking is pretty fun to do actually (I've done it twice). But honestly unless you are pretty skilled with a soldering iron I wouldn't even attempt it. Also AFAIK there is no articles/write-ups to this effect but that is not to say it isn't possible I certainly think it is just a matter of analyzing the motherboard.

The iBook G4 and Mac Mini have different FSB (133 and 167 respectively), so I don't know if you'd get the same speed increases on the iBook G4 as the Mac Mini.

hey sorry I didn't respond yet! I forgot anandtech changed how you are notified. I didn't realize I had so many responses!

It looks like I'm giving my sister my current iBook and buying the new model anyways, so it should be a nice boost to performance :)
