Can anyone tell me how to setup bios for OC cpu 4.7ghz or 4.8ghz for max stability and not high temp and is it worth to oc him.
Can i OC with multiply only x48 or i need to move voltage too... thanks anyway

You already have a very fast setup, but if you're inclined to overclock, then it's time for some reading..

"An example would be if you modify your CPU turbo multiplier from auto to 46 ( effectively overclocking your CPU to 4.6GHz ) there are auto rules that will be automatically put into effect to ensure a smoother and simpler overclocking experience."

"So what values need manual adjustment? Just CPU voltage, enabling of XMP ( Extreme Memory Profile ) and entry of the desired multiplier. All other values are defined by the auto rules programmed within the UEFI."

Keep in mind, heat is your enemy.. You most likely can't use 48 multiplier.. 46? probably..

You don't mention what kind of cooling you have, but I can OC my 4790K to 4.7 by setting the voltage to 1.33 with XMP enabled and my temps with all cores maxed out stay in the high 70s to low 80s. This is with a Corsair H100i closed-loop water cooler. The system is totally stable at that voltage.

I can get 4.8 at 1.305, but on air that might be dicey. I seem to remember anything over about 1.29V causing problems on air if the ambients were high. It's all individual to each chip, though.

I think about H110 Corsair, for OC 4.6ghz i think its enougt just little clock :)
Can you explain me what i got when i enable XMP?
So for cpu i need to move voltage and multiply x46 for 4.6ghz
Memory set 2133 and 1 or 2t timing? i hear 1t is faster but 2t is stable whats your experience?

This issue about XMP and command-rate still has me a bit puzzled.

Let me explain. Keep in mind I have a Z68 motherboard, but it seems to me the XMP features were fairly well established by then, and never seemed to be a problem.

My own RAM -- G.SKILL DDR3-1866 "GBRL" 2x8GB -- has spec settings of 1.5V, 9-9-9-24 2N (or 2T). When I select the XMP profile for 1866 from my MOTHERBOARD BIOS, the menu item changes to reflect the RAM spec of 9-9-9-24 2N. I would then set the RAM timings to "auto" -- each and every one. When I save the settings and boot back into BIOS, the effective settings are 9-9-9-24 1N (or 1T). Which . . . would be nice! . . IF . . one can be sure of stability. Command-rate 1 gives a nice little performance boost.

I can't make up my mind whether the resulting XMP settings derive from the memory or the motherboard. You could (because I have done so myself) -- set the XMP profile, put all the timings on "auto" except the command-rate, and manually set the command-rate to 2.

But with command rate 1, I discovered I needed either of two things: More VCCIO for the IMC, or more VCORE. So it is important to retest your RAM if changing command-rate from 2 to 1. I had to bump up my VCCIO a couple notches to avoid BSODs with stop code 09C. 09C suggests deficiencies in the memory and VCCIO settings, or VCORE -- as explained in summaries of stop codes provided for overclocking diagnostics.

Another point: I see folks confident of their i7-4790K overclock settings at 4.6 and higher. That's a good sign, if the thermals aren't high enough for throttling and you use a relatively good stress-test. But then ask yourself this.

If the processor is supposed to run at 4.0, and it has a "turbo" of 4.4 for at least one or two cores, then you could easily overclock it to give 4.4 on all cores. So you really have to ask yourself if further overclocking is even necessary. Whaddya get?! Maybe a 200 Mhz increase?

If you decide to overclocking here is my favorite Haswell Overclocking Guide.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CHs5_TdpXE

Keep in mind it is with Z87 so the BIOS looks a bit different, but just visually. The available settings will still be the same on Z97.

Alternately you can watch this, same motherboard as yours

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KW4soqs-MEY
Start @10:10.

Maybe I already watched that YouTube. Or -- was the one I saw for an X99 and E processor? Can't remember. But I'm an old fart. I want a guide that I can consult easily for specifics, without fast-forward and rewind trial-and-error! They should always present a text version of OC (or any other guides) in addition to the video offering.

I can get to 4.7Ghz by setting the voltage to 1.328v, but my temps are max 69C with Cooler Master Nepton 240M. And I'm not sure I want to run it that high. Wish I could get it at lower. Still playing with it.

I think you will have to get one of the better chips to get to 4.7 or 4.8 without a lot of voltage. I dont have one myself, but from what I have seen on these forums, around 4.6 is the sweet spot for 4790k overclocking.

Personally I agree with Bonzi. If I had a 4790k, I would probably just do the MCE thing that runs all 4 cores at max turbo (4.4 ghz) and be done with it. The most additional you are going to get is less than 10%, and probably more like 5%.

^ That's what I ended up doing. I can get 4.8 24/7 with mine but it's just not worth the effort.

I won the CPU lottery for the first time in my life with my 4790k. Was doing 4.8 stable for over an hour at 1.285v. Backed down to 4.6 and called it a day.
