I ordered - received today the Noctua NH D15 CPU cooler, it was very easy to mount it.
I never did overclocking before, for me is S. F. right now
Could anyone here with the same CPU and Gigabyte motherboard, help me, please? My mobo is Gigabyte GA Z97X-UD5H
Thank you in advance

I own GB board, but it's on FM2+ platform. I just hope it has same gui.
You may enter your bios and look for advanced freq. options.
There you'll find adv. CPU core settings.
CPU multiplier may be changed on CPU Clock Ratio options.
You may also search about it on Youtube. There should be some documentations by now because it's pretty popular chip.

The thing you need to watch is temps. Most new boards do pretty well with CPU core voltage on AUTO (at least Asus boards do) so just raise the multiplier a bit at a time. Run OCCT:
http://www.ocbase.com/index.php/download
which will put all cores at max load and show your temps. If you see it hit 100 degrees C during the test, it is throttling, so either you have gone as far as you can go with the overclock, or something isn't quite right with the cooler's mounting. As a test, run OCCT at base frequency first to get some base line numbers.

Have fun!

Looks like gradually turning up the Turbo ratios (all 4) is what you are looking for.

So, with Turbo ratios could i go more than 4,4 GHz ?
Set them all at 4.4 Ghz, then test with OCCT and check temperatures. If temperatures are ok, proceed to increasing to 4.5Ghz.

At some point 1 of 3 things will happen:
1) Temperatures will go too high to keep under control even with high fan speed. That's your chip limit thermal wise.
2) Machine will not boost towards the set turbo speed, that's probably your power limitation set in place - Turbo power limit (Watts). That can be increased safely considering your cooler can definitely handle more.
3) Machine will become unstable (black screen, reset etc) in which case you probably need to increase CPU voltage in order to make the overclock stable.

Personally I would recommend you to just increase all turbo ratios to 4.4 or 4.5 Ghz and be done with it for now after testing stability with OCCT. If you want to go further you need to thoroughly read an overclocking guide and understand what these settings mean.

Looks like your cooler isn't making good contact with the cpu. Might need to get some more thermal compound (if you don't have extra) and try the installation again.

Ok. I will.
I just reseted the BIOS, enabled Turbo only, and run the test again.
Same error, with " Core #2 over maximum value. Value Reached : 88, Max Value 85
But i did install the cooler ok, i guess. Maybe i didn't apply enough thermal compound.
I did exactly like here

Try bumping the voltage up a little higher. I can't see from the screenshot on my phone what your max temps were

Now i'm confused.
Isn't the cooler making good contact with the CPU, or some BIOS settings ?!

When occt failed, what were the max Temps? If they were pretty low and you got that error message you probably need to bump the voltage. If the temps were high, then the heat sink is not making good contact.

Wait a sec, do you max a max temp set somewhere is tge BIOS? It may be triggering the warning on OCCT. Max on that chip isn't until 100. Still, 88 seems pretty high for such a good cooler at stock CPU speed.

In BIOS, i have something like " CPU max thermal protection : 130 °C
So, that means, the cooler isn't making good contact with the CPU ?
Do I have to enable / disable EIST / C1E / when Turbo is enabled ??

I screwed everything right, the cooler seems to be good mounted

Applying thermal compound is tricky. Too little is bad, too much is also bad. Did Noctua include a tube of thermal compound? They make a very good compound, but you didn't mention what brand you are using.

Get some acetone and a lint-free cloth and clean all the compound off the CPU and the cooler. Try again with just a small lump of compound right in the center of the CPU housing.

I used a 4790K for a couple of years, and it should do 4.6 at reasonable voltages and temps with air cooling. When I switched to a closed-loop water cooler, temps were never an issue, only voltage.

Yes, Noctua did include a thermal compound, and i used it
Maybe i put to much. I did apply thermal compound on the CPU and on the cooler heat sink also
Was that wrong ??

That is the absolute Max. I leave eist and c1e enabled. I'm talking about when you run occt what does the max temp say in the other window when you run it?

Core 0 = 80 C
Core 2 = 90 C

One more question, please : how exactly is the position of both coolers ?
Intake - exhaust ?
