Overclock help for x2 3800

Well from what I've read this is definitely right place to post for help overclocking! I would like to overclock the x2 3800 to 2.4 ghz at low/moderate voltage or 2.5 ghz at moderate/higher voltage.

My system is:
-AMD x2 3800 cooled by a thermaltake heatpipe cooler with fan(better than stock but less than big typhoon)
-DFI lanparty ultra D
-OCZ platinum EL (2 GB) 2-3-2-5 1 T (which is stable up to ~ 220 mHz)

Currently I can be dual prime 95 stable at 2.4 Ghz with full large fft temps at 43-46 C. Idle temps are 25-30 C. The setup for this is 10x 240 with memory at 166 to give 200 mHz exactly. Vcore stable is 1.44-1.45 V. I haven't touched any other voltages except memory which I have raised to 2.7V

I cannot seem to get prime 95 stable at 2.5 Ghz, and at lower voltages for 2.4 Ghz. One core always fails early. I can run the bad core by itself for however long and it won't fail but soon after I turn on the other core with the second prime95 I start to get errors. At 2.5 Ghz I would run 10x 250 with memory at 166 to give ~208 mhz.

I'm measuring temps with speedfan and ITE smart guardian and they are close to what I see in bios so they are probably right. Any suggestions of what I can do to be more stable with less volts at 2.4 or to get stable at 2.5?

Thanks!

there aren't any ways (unless your going for phase change since the lower temps would allow cpus to be able to ahieve higher mhz at lower volt) to get it stable with less volts at 2.4Ghz. Same thing applies to 2.5Ghz....your going to need to apply more voltage or just stay at 2.4Ghz. You got an average overclock with the cpu, mine hits 2.5Ghz at Stock voltage, 2.6Ghz at 1.4V, 2.7 at 1.5V and i stopped there since i didn't have extreme cooling.

Great, thanks. I'm satisfied with 2.4 but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't leaving anything important out since I'm new at this. Thanks again!

Hey Guys,

I have a stock X2 3800+ and I want to overclock it to 2.4GHZ. How do I do this? It is a total first for me and I would love to know!

Can sbdy please tell me how and what I need to do and where? I have the eVGA Mobo from the newegg deal.

thx

This was the first time for me also and I got most of my info from the sticky note at the top of this forumLINK. Read this and just be very patient and careful. Go a little bit at a time. This helped me. The only difference is that I had a DFI motherboard to help me out. I'm not as familiar with your motherboard. Best of luck, it's not all that hard for these x2's!
