well, I problem is as follow. I've own this system for 3 almost months now, and when I first bought it, the system was able to run at 117mhz * 8.0 = 936mhz.
But now, I can't even get it to run stable at 110mhz * 8.5 = 935mhz.
When I try 107 or 105, the system runs fun, but except when I play games such as Counter-Strike, Quake 3, Swat3, they sometimes lock up.
Do you guys think it's the IDE devices? Or the RAM? I am thinking to buy a Mushkin PC150, but is it really worth it? Becuase it's pretty expensive for me, since I am still a high school student.
Please give some advices..... suggestions......
appreciated....

I'm not quite sure how you were able to run the duron at 117Mhz FSB on a KT133 based mobo, that's generally a no-no. Just about everything I've read says that you have to stay at or lower than 110Mhz fsb with any of the chipsets supporting t-birds and durons.

I wouldn't bother buying the more expensive memory, since more than likely the memory is not what's holding you back. If you run the memory at the FSB speed (so not +33), you should be able to test if it's the memory that's holding you back.

You'll have to get to 950 by changing the multiplier on that duron/mobo.

Just my 2 cents 🙂 Good luck!

Leave the fsb at 100mhz, and boost that multiplier! If it doesn't boot, bump up the voltage a little... BTW, what kind of heatsink do you have on your Duron?

I suspect your lockups are an AGP and Vid driver issue rather than an overclocking issue. What vid card drivers are you using? I found the det3's to be wacky on the leadtek MX. The 5.22 leadtek drivers were a little less performing but the stability was best. I am suprised you got a fsb that high. Do you have active cooling on the clock chip? The highest I can get fully stable is 107. Any higher and I lock up when tryng to copy and paste screen shots or it refuses to boot. I don't have active cooling on my clock chip yet though.

um... maybe IT IS the video card driver...
I'll test it out, and see what happen..
oh, by the way, I did seriously did hit 117, even 120, but 120 wan't stable enough, so 117 was the best I could get....

The AMD double pumped bus does not tolerate OCing very well. You are very lucky to get anything above 105Mhz.

I think I have found the problem. It's the CPU, which it can't handle the result of overclocking. I now underclock a bit, and increase little by little until it hits its limit. The FSB is now 115mhz * 7..

oh by the way, I am using Prime 95 self test to see if the devices are working properly, that's how I figured out the problem.
