OVERCLOCK BFG 6800 GT

I have a BFG 6800gt pci-e card and when I try and overclock either using the default program or rivatuner it seems to reset the core from 400 mhz to its original 370 mhz after a few minutes of playing a game. But the memory overclock stays at 1100mhz. Could anyone explain this?
