Hi guys, I was wondering if it would be easy and safe to overclock this card that I have. A PCI Radeon 9200 SE 64MB DDR made by Xtasy. I noticed it doesn't have a fan on it and I came to the conclusion that it could be overclocked safely with the addition of a fan and more cooling. But I don't know how to overclock...

I attained the powerstrip software already but am unsure how to use it. SO any input on
a) how to do this
b) how safe it is to do this

would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Make sure you got some good airflow in your case if you want to get some noticable performance out of the card.

Ok here is a few tips.

1. It is almost impossible to destroy a video card by overclockin, if you go to far it normally just crashes and reboots and is fine.

2. Because your using a 9200SE, that means the memory is 64 bit, causing it's slow performance. Above all else, try to overclock the memory as far as she will go, that will get you the most performance out of your 9200se.

3. goto www.omegacorner.com and download the newest drivers they got for radeons. They are faster then the ATI ones and if i remember correctly have an overclocking tool in the settings tabs in the drivers.

4. Powerstrip is pretty good, but i dont like having it because i dont like having lots of programs running in the taskbar near the clock, but thats just me.

5. Im assuming you have an AGP 4X or 8X motherboard correct? If overclocking the 9200se doesnt get you the performance you need, there are some killer video cards for pretty cheap. Such cards are GF4 Ti4200, which can be had for under $100, ATI Radeon 9600 Pro, which can be had for under $150 if i remember correctly.

www.newegg.com is in my opinion, and many other people's, the best and most reliable online retailer.

Hey, I have a similar question... I am fairly new to overclocking, infact, I just barely overclocked my 3.06 Ghz to 3.45 Ghz... I dont know much about overclocking video cards, what are the benefits?

Here are my current specs:
Intel P4 3.06 GHz, 533MHz
Asus Motherboard P4S800D
Stock Cooling(4 cooling fans)
1GB DDR PC-3200 Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed
ATI Radeon 9800 XT
WD 36 gb SATA 10,000 RPM hard drive...

I'd like to overclock the ATi Radeon 9800 XT, 256 Mb Ram if it's easy and safe. Any info would be awesome!! Thanks

Sohrab, the radeon 9800XT is basically a radeon 9800 PRO overclocked by ATi, so technically it's an overclock, but the core is the same. By raising the clock speed as they did from radeon 9800 pro levels to xt levels, the heat generated is also increased. Therefore meaning that you have very little room to overclock unless you buy a third party radeon cooler.

Here is an example of a sapphire card : Review of Sapphire Radeon 9800 XT

Thank you very much!
Will go get those new drivers! need some big fans now too don't I? ( don't really care about noise)

Hmmm, I got the omega drivers and all and I installed them properly, but now how do I do the actual dance that we call overlclocking?

I can't seem to find a setting that says overclock or something along those lines, can anyone tell me how to do it with powerstrip?

Thanks!
