overclock a P4???? n00b needs help

ya, so my friend IMs me tonight asking if he can overclock his P4. I, being an AMD person, have no clue. I searched around a bit on google but didn't find much help. here is as much info as i can get from him...

P4 1.8 Ghz
intel desktop board, D845BG
512 PC2100 DDR
Geforce2

any help would be great.

Intel makes a nice mobo, but does not support overclocking features.

so he can't up the FSB or change a multiplier?

Multiplier is locked. FSB is not adjustable on an Intel brand mobo. There is a program called softfsb you could try. If not, he is out of luck unless he gets a different mobo. 🙁

let start off my saying im also a newbie
im having problems o/c my cpu this is what i have:
asus p4s8x m.b.
512 mb crucial pc2100
9700pro 128mb v.c.
40 gb 7200rpm
p4 2.4b runnin @ 2700
i have to set the memory to run @112 mhz b/c when i select auto
it runs at the speed that im runnin my m.b 150mhz and crashes. i can go to 2880 mhz then i'll have the memory runnin @ 118-120 mhz anything faster and the computer crashes on the reg.i cant really even run @2880 for to long b.c. it just keeps crashin i could get online but cant play no games..
i set the Vcore up to 1.55 and the fsb to 150 to run @2700 everything works fine the games etc.
how do i go about setting what u guys r always talking about 2.5-2-2???
what else am i not doing rite..
i havent done nothing with the radeon 9700pro b/c i just got it yesterday but b4 that i was runnin ati 8500le 128mb
same thing always happens i thought if i got a better v.c. i could o/c it to atleast 3000mhz..
so far all i have done to my machine is raise the fsb and the vcore how i go about tweakin the memory and v.c if ya think i need to do that???????
i will not give up..

PC2100 is rated for DDR266 speed. You are running 150 FSB which needs PC2700 at a minimum. To use the better multipliers, you will need PC3200 capable ram.
