Overclock a HDD

I was wondering since we can overclock almost any part of the computer can we overclokc the HDD as well to make it spin faster. Like get a normal 7200RPM HDD and make it spin at 10,000... well maybe thats a bit too high but maybe atleast to 8,000RPM.

What do you guys think?

Not possible. A hard drive is a mechanical device. Short of rebuilding the motor assembly, there's nothing you could do to "overclock" a hard drive.

And even *if* it were possible to try, consider the tolerance you'd be messing with.. 7,200 RPM is moving at a darn good clip, with the head moving over the platter so closely that you can't fit a human hair between the head and the physical platter!

No, it's not going to happen.

yeah i just thought lol maybe.... I guess i have to get one of those new 150GB Raptors. Pricey though.

Yea, that and most hard drives are already operating at their design limits.
