Overclcoking RAM from two different brands?

Ok, so I have 4gb Patriot Viper DDR2800. They are specced 4-4-4-12 DDR2 800 and 2.1V.

I'm thinking of augmenting that with some XMS 4gb DDR2 800. These are specced 5-5-5-18 and 1.8V.

I plan on running it at 1066 (or is 1333 feasible?). However, because they are of different specifications, is this recommended? Or should I want until I can snag another deal on RAM of similar specs/model?

Ideally, you would want matched RAM sticks. You may be able to run those sticks together and even overclock them, but keep in mind that the slowest stick will always hold the rest of them back.

Mixing brands can work, but it will indeed require more tuning.

Expecting it to OC to 1066 is wishful thinking.

While certainly possible, it wouldn't count on it.

1333?
I assume you are new to OCing...there are no 2x2 GB kits that can do that speed other than lucky G.Skill Pi 1200s & the new OCZ LV Blade/Platinum kits.

You'll be able to run DDR2-800 5-5-5 barring any big incompatibilities, but anything more will be luck + skill.

Keep in mind 8 GB is much more of a PITA to OC than 2x2 GB too...

Well from the reviews speeds of 1000-1066 seem fairly common.

But yeah, RAM isn't something I've had much experience OCing. Mainly due to a string of cheap motherboards which have almost no options for OCing.
