Is is possible to burn large file(s) (in my case 768mb) on a cd? Can nero 5.5 do it?

i tried it with nero, and before burning it told me there was not enough space on the cd.
To my understanding it is possible to 'overburn' cds in order to store greater than reconmended amounts of data.

can it be done?

thanks

That seems like that would be an awful lot to overburn, I dont think any burner or cd can over burn that, maybe you want to buy some 800mb cd's.

They've been out for a little bit...99 min/800 mb CDs...they are still rather hard to come by though...

Not sure how many burners can record them either...

Haha, on a standard 700MB CD, AFAIK the only way you can squeeze up to 800MB worth of info onto it is if you burn an audio CD or SVCD (80min)

I have seen some double density CD's in UK estimated 1.3Gb.
I have never tried them though.

Why not use Mode 2 CD format?

You get 800 MB on an 80 minute CD.

Drawback: Less error correction (more likely to lose data in the event of a scratch), not readable in all drives

Mark R, you can't simply select mode 2 and have to burn it in audio-cd mode. I think the most you can overburn a 700 MB cd is by 25 MB on average. Get a program called Feurio and it will burn a cd, in simulation, to see how much can it be overburned.

If the file is an .mpg (up to 798 MB) file, it can be burned as a VCD or SVCD, and still fit on a "nominal" 700 MB CD.
Use Nero, with overburning enabled. Resulting burned disc will show as being over 800 MB in Windows Explorer.

Yeah it's like ~660. But I bet that's what he's trying to burn anyway, because although the actual disk is ~660 the ISO/bin (whatever) is 768MB. Those things are always bigger than what you actually need to burn. Abu, you need to actually turn on overburning in Nero to be able to use it, look around in the options.
