Over the counter muscle relaxer?

I went working out with a buddy of mine.

He use to manage a weight gym. So he knows his stuff.

But I haven't weight lifted in several years, and he decided to have me work on most of my upper body muscles. And he didn't start me off light either.

Yesterday was the worst pain/tightening of muscles after a work out I have ever felt. And, its on every possible pivot point I have.

Today is even worse than yesterday. I actually had to take Tylenol and Aleve just to get some of the edge off, and I still feel horrible. I'm thinking I need a muscle relaxer because I can't even straighten my arm all the way.

update:
Day 1 - Incredibly tight, horrible pain. Could barely move.
Day 2 - Incredibly tight, SWOLLEN, even more pain. My muscles feel hard with pressure.
Day 3 - Incredibly tight, but could move a little more, now became a horrible Ache. Now my pecs hurt more than my arms.
Day 4 - Still hurts! Got a little more limber, but still hurts no matter which direction I move my arms.
Day 5 - Finally it feels like it should after a workout. Still tight.
Day 6 Today - The pain is gone, but there is still lingering tightness, especially in my pecs. If stretch my arms out in opposing directions, it doesn't "hurt", but its uncomfortable. Did I develop scar tissue? Is my connective tissue damaged? When I stretch them, it feels like when a limb falls asleep, but then that feeling goes away when I stop stretching.

No, this isn't normal soreness you get after working out. This is the worst I have *ever* felt, and its all the muscles at once. I can barely move. Turning my steering wheel takes a lot of effort.

Maybe I just need to pick up some liquor...

It's called "DOMS" (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness). I have it right now in my legs. It's almost a sure bet to happen if you jump right back into working out as you did. :D

Yes, it hurts but man up and deal with it, tomorrow will feel better and the day after you probably will feel fine again.

Tiger Balm FTW. It used to happen to me all the time when I was in TKD.

If a friend makes you do a workout that makes you sore for a week, there are four possibilities in my mind:

1. He doesn't know his stuff

2. He's not your friend

3. You knew it was too much but didn't let him know and did it anyway to try to impress him

4. Any combination of the above

If I were helping a friend who hadn't lifted in a long time, I wouldn't put them through this. This isn't sore, it's INJURED.

i have to agree. he should have eased you into it. he knew it'd been awhile since you lifted, right?

Yea I told him. And for the most part, it wasn't an intense workout. It was pretty general. And I have been running on the treadmill for the last few months so I wasn't going into this completely out of shape. And no point during the workout did I feel like I was overdoing it.

Could it have been any of the vaccines I took prior to my trip to India? Could it have been a toxic buildup in my muscles that was released too quick? Am I deficient in a particular nutrient? Maybe it has something to do with my cutting out coffee the day before and not drinking any a few days after?

I don't doubt his ability as an instructor. He has a ton of certifications and use to be a manager of a gym. My body just happen to crap out for some reason.

Hmm, I forgot about the X factor, sorry. Lack of caffeine, swelling, and tightness could all be reducing your blood circulation too much. If that's the case, you need water, nutrition, walking, and a couple rubdowns a day.

I don't know anything about vaccines, but when I was 8, I got an MMR(?) in my arm muscle that hurt badly for days. Ask your friend if he's heard of anything like this.
