Over clocking with MSI K7T Turbo

Just got the board and everything worked just great. I have a Duron 600 from my ASUS system that overclocked to 900 mhz easily at default voltage (never had to raise it). I have been able to overclock this same chip. When I make changes in the bios (7 x 100) the system just hangs. I have to cut the power and reboot and reset the settings to default. Are there any bios settings that need to be changed to get the multiplier working other than default. Thanks

LTCARE,

Actually you will probably want to Flash your BIOS. MSI has what they consider an overclockers BIOS which frees up the multiplier selection a bit and increases performance.

There are several threads floating around that go into great detail about your new MB but for a quicky let list a few things:

Flash to the BETA Overclokers BIOS. There are a few tricks here as well. The other threads explain it well.

Be aware that the VCore you set in the BIOS is not what you get. 1.75 set in the BIOS actually yields around 1.84.

There are some strange quirks in the power management settings that cause the board to ask odd on restarts for some people (me included)

If you need more help feel free to send me a PM (Private Message). That's the little lock icon you see at the top right of my reply.

From many reviews & postings here, this from one

<< Weak Points

No extended memory tweaks in bios
Some multiplier selecting problems ( 7x, 7.5x and 8x )
Normal bios does not support multipliers below normal multiplier ( OC bios does )

O.k. I flashed the bios to the overclocker's bios and I now have lower multiplier adjustments and I assume other changes. I am now able to O/C my Duron 600 to 650. Any higher multiplier and the system locks up once I exit and save the bios settings. I have to turn off and turn on the power to get it reboot and it resets itself to 600. I am puzzled. What happen to easy? Your assistance is appreciated.

RJRD,

Yes that's it exactly. If you check the PC Health section of the BIOS or use MSI's little PC Alert software you will see the 1.94 with it set to 1.85 in the BIOS.

LTCARE,

Have you tried using the FSB instead of the multiplier? Is you heatsink installed good? I don't mean to offend if the questions seem basic but you have to start somewhere.

I found on my T-Bird that I couldn't really go up in multiplier without WIN2K freaking out but I raised the FSB to 133 with no problem.

LTCARE,

In case I wasn't clear set the system at 6X133 and then do a little voltage tweaking. (Both up and possibly down)

In the power management section there is a setting for what the computer does after a power loss if you set it to "ON" instead of "AUTO" it will make the upcoming several BIOS changes and reboots less painful.

Thank for all the info. Heat sink is on good. At 650 Mhz I have 34 C. Heat is not a problem. The L 1 bridges are closed. I used the defogger stuff and it is still there. Same CPU O/Cs in my ASUS A7V at 900 Mhz at default voltage at 43 C. When I flashed my bios and got the lower multiplier settings, I lost the use of MSI's fuzzy logic program. When executed, it causes a windows error. If not executed, things work great. But still no O/C above 650 even if I up the voltage to 1.75 in the bios (which really is 1.85) I disabled the power savings in the bios. I'll go from auto to on and see what happens. Any more help would help. Learning is great :)

I'm using the beta v1.06.
The multiplier is jumbled. x5 is working, but x7 is posting 1150mhz, x7.5 is posting 1200mhz and x8 is posting 1250mhz on 1gig tbird.
x9 is posting 900mhz, so I take the jumper off, then no post at all.
