We bought a breville smart convection oven a few months ago and it is awesome. However there is brown build up on the top and on the crumb tray.. I assume its grease that is just cooked on.

I tried some oven degreaser but it did nothing... plus the grease is close the elements so I don't want to spray it directly on there.

What do you guys use to clean this? Can you scrub stainless steel? I don't want to scratch anything... just want to get this thing to look like it did 3 months ago.

I don't do anything for utilitarian appliances. They get dirty with use, and the effort it takes to keep them looking new doesn't provide enough reward.

Perhaps not the exact model...but the basics should be the same:

Cleaning the interior
1.
The walls on the inside of the oven
feature a non-stick coating for easy
cleaning. To clean any spattering that
may occur while cooking, wipe the
walls with a soft, damp sponge.
A non-abrasive liquid cleanser or mild
spray solution may be used to avoid
build-up of stains. Apply the cleanser to
the sponge, not the oven surface, before
cleaning. Avoid touching the quartz
heating elements.

Cleaning the crumb tray
1.
After each use, slide out the crumb tray
and discard crumbs. Wipe the tray with a
soft, damp sponge. A non-abrasive liquid
cleanser may be used to avoid build-up
of stains. Apply the cleanser to the
sponge, not the tray, before cleaning.
Dry thoroughly.
2.
To remove baked-on grease, soak the
tray in warm soapy water then wash with
a soft sponge or soft plastic scouring
pad. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
3.
Always ensure to re-insert the crumb tray
into the oven after cleaning and prior to
inserting the power plug into a wall outlet
and turning the oven ON.

Cleaning the wire rack, broil rack,
baking pan and pizza pan
1.
Wash all accessories in warm soapy
water with a soft sponge or soft plastic
scouring pad. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
2.
To extend the life of your accessories, we
do not recommend that these be placed
in the dishwasher.

Barkeeper's friend. It works wonders. We use it on our stainless steel to get the deep oil stains out.

These my are exact thoughts, but I do clean them when I feel it may be a safety/fire hazard (Grill for example).

has anyone tried cooking a steak during teh cleaning cycle?

There was an old woman that lived down the street from me when I lived at home. At least once a month she'd lock her fish sticks in the oven on the cleaning cycle, and I'd get called down to rescue it. Also, every time I had to explain it was safe to eat, and that it didn't use chemicals in the cleaning process :^D
