I'm just wondering... usually when I go to a movie and I have food, I just put it in my bag when I'm going in because my friends seem to think its not allowed, but I havn't seen any signs or anyone get their food taken, lol. And it's Famous Players I usually go to, if that matters.

Movie theater employees are generally paid from concession stand revenues. If I worked at a movie theater and I saw people bringing food in, I'd say no. :p

That said, I conceal food sometimes. :D

It really depends on the theater.

But as a general rule, outside movie/beverages are not allowed.

Some theaters do not allow bags, or purses, even - just to avoid this (and camcorder) smuggling.

There was a soda machine, right by the ticket person, so I got a soda.
Then, when I go to the girl to take my ticket, she says, you can't take that soda in.

I freaked out.

They sometimes have vending machines with sodas in them in case you want to rebel against their money making schemes at the concession stands. The soda from the machine will cost you $3.25. ;)

No, of course it's not allowed. I talked to a few people that works for Regal Cinema and they tell me for each ticket purchased, they'd have to pay good portion to the producer and after counting all the expenses, they make just as much or more profit from concession stand sales.

If a member of the management happens to be the watchdog, then you'll most likely get told no. If a part time, minimum wage kid is working the same job, he most likely won't say a word.

I worked in a movie theater once. I was the day manager, from noon to 7 pm. Movie theaters make close to nothing from tickets. Most $$$ is made from the concession stand sales. Every once in a while, we had customers trying to sneak in with outside food. I simply refused to let them in, asked them to leave along with a refund for their ticket.

I was an usher in a movie theater when I was 16 (5 years ago, but who's counting)... We had to stay on the lookout for people sneaking in outside food (and theater hopping). It was so much fun to get the security guy and put the smack down ;-) Of course, that was the only good part of the job, and I promptly quit.

Where I live it is not allowed however many people just sneak in a few cans of Soda since it is outrageously priced.

as w/ everyone else... i don't think we'd have to sneak food in (like its hard, especially in winter w/ jackets) if the prices for a soda wern't like $3 for a medium.

ive "snuck" food in before, but seriously... security guards for movit theaters, gimme a break, most bouncers at clubs (excluding off duty cops) are just meatheads who look big and thats it - are there to scare lil kids.

going to the movies went from (when i was a kid) being a fun experiance - to now being like a $30 event for an hour and a half of time for me and a grrl - for tickets, food and drink... not that is super exspensive, but i mean... its an hour and a half, most movies that come out now are only an hour....

i think the movie industry is feeling the crunch from blockbuster and netflix and all these smaller companies that are putting out pretty good straight to dvd movies then the blockbusters that happened years ago.

when i was a kid... a GOOD movie was in the theater for 2-3 months... now your lucky if its 2 weeks

well you just need to be disciplined enough to not buy any food from the concession stand, whats so hard about not eating while watching a movie? if you dont like the rules, simply dont eat anything in there.

dude, i am telling you, i worked as a day manager before, movie theaters make close to nothing with movie ticket sales. concession stand sales is the only way to make any profit. i agree, coke/candies/popcorn, all are expensive, but theaters wouldn't survive otherwise.

I like to sneak about 6 large bags or corn nuts in the theater, or maybe large box of pop-rocks from Sams.

Yeah, I took beer in when I went and saw Bad Santa. I really didn't even sneak it in. I think I had it in a sack and just walked on back. They didn't even have people checking tickets. Course I picked up my mess afterwards anyway. They aren't losing money on me, because I never sneak beverages in minus that one time really. I almost always go to eat before a movie, and I can wait 2 hours for something to drink.
