Outrageous DSL costs

Since I am moving in a few days I have been calling about broadband available in my area. For $44.95 I can get 3.0/128 cable (same provider I currently have) or I can opt for Sprint DSL. Sprint offers a DSL package for $44.95 so I figured it would be at least somewhat competitive with the cable company. Man was I wrong.

For $44.95 I would get 512/128.

Will look into it, but I doubt anything else is available. Hell, I am lucky that even one broadband service is available in the small town I am moving to.

Location. You're probably too far from the nearest junction box -- probably right on the edge of available service, hence the minimal download rate.

Your new town doesn't have cable modems? 🙁

I pay $49.95 for 512/128 DSL through Sprint and, as far as I know, it's the only DSL available. It is better than the speed I was getting on cable, but that was awhile ago. I believe the cable speeds are better now. Sigh. I hate switching, though. 🙁

Is cable limited at all?

It is 3.0/128. I could get 3.0/384 but it costs almost twice as much.

No, I meant like monthly thingies. Damn, can't think right now.

You know, how much you can download/upload a month.

No limits on that.

It's usually in the grey area. Once they start seeing big numbers, they'll give you a call & ask you to tone it down a bit. You'll ask them what are my limits, & they won't be even to feed you a rough estimate. They'll just tell you to cut back the usage.

Almost every company has some sort of limit. Just depends what the average usage is of people around you, & whether they want to take the time to enforce it.

In nyc, I stick with Verizon, because they don't care. 😀
