Outputing Non-Native resolution to HDTV

is it ok to output a 800p signal from a computer (a netbook, for instance) to a 1080p TV set (LCD or Plasma)? would that damage the TV or shorten its lifespan? i know it would result in blurry picture, but i dont mind that.
