Outpost sent me a free Opteron 146...what should I do?

I got home today after a long weekend, and found that I had gotten a package from Outpost. I opened it up to see what it was, and to my surprise it was an Opteron 146 CACJE 0604 GPBW retail boxed CPU.

Now, I've never ordered a processor from Outpost before (hard drives, yes, semi-often). My online bank statement doesn't show any pending charges, and my Outpost account doesn't show any orders with Opterons in them.

This almost seems like a gift after the check card fraud I had to deal with last week, but the only problem is I didn't pay for this. The shipping date was three weeks old, and Outpost has never tried to contact me in that meantime regarding it. What do I do? Keep it, send it back, contact them and see what they say?

The right thing to do: contact them and find out what's going on.

What I would probly do: hold onto it for a few weeks, then do what you wish.

This sounds about right to me.

Keep karma in mind.

The tempation is obviously to say "YAY ME!"...

But the right thing to do is call them and ask what may have happened.

Well, I don't think I'll need to hold onto it for a few weeks, because according to the shipping date, it must have been sitting in the office for almost that long.

I guess I'll just call them up.

Have they ever carried Opterons? I can't seem to find any on their website. I don't recall them ever carrying them, which is the weird part.

My prediction:

Customer Service won't give a damn.

That's what I would figure...and if that happens, I'll feel much better than I would have if I didn't call them and kept it.

If they don't send you a SASE to ship it back, I would just ebay it.

Let us know what Customer Service says about your mysteriously-appearing package. We are curious...

Think of all the times you've been screwed and then realize that the universe is paying you back.

Maybe Jessica Alba will arrive someday :)

karma is a weak-willed person's method for extracting some sort of balance in the universe. It's what people who are too spineless to stand up for themselves use as a crutch...Having said that, the good thing to do would be to call them up and ask what the deal is.

Tell them, However do not pay to send it back. If they screwed up then they cant MAKE you pay shipping. IN fact dont tell them your name until they have agreed to pay.

some kid is out there crying because his 146 never came in. It was the last component in the rig that he has been skipping out on lunch for the past 6 years to build. he will slash his wrists with the metal fins on his now useless arctic freezer heatsink, and watch his blood drain slowly on his ocz powerstream 520w, which will explode, shooting sparks and unidentifiable circuitry into his eyes.

Shortly thereafter, he will die.

ROFL!

Anyway, UPDATE!

Just got off the phone with an Outpost rep...he checked my order history, and couldn't find the Opteron in there. Then he checked his inventory, and said that he hasn't carried the Opteron 146 for a while, which is what I remembered. He did a few other checks, then told me he couldn't figure out how I got it, but that they couldn't do anything with it since they didn't carry it any longer, so he told me to keep it.

Sweet.

:)

Unless you were planning a new computer anyway I would ebay it. That will probably be the easiest 200 bucks you ever made
