Review at Imaging-Resouce.
  • Note: for those unware, the C-755 and the C-750 are (for all intents and purposes) one in the same camera, save the black camera body. This particular model being sold should not be confused with the "Japanese Only" model of the C-755.

Seems like a decent price considering Pricegrabber only lists refurbished models. eBay sellers are also selling them for around 250.00 shipped, but again they are refurbs. Even Olympus has an eBay online auction presence and they are selling, guess what, refurbs.

Bump for a good deal on a new camera.

That's a whole lotta camera at a killer price. As far as I'm concerned, 4 MP is plenty for any mortal, and this thing has tremendous automatic and manual functionality. Thanks for the tip!

I rather thought the same.

The only minor concessions on this particular camera would be that it uses XD media (which isn't nearly as inepensive and popular as CF and SD), and it lacks the image stabilization (IS) that some more expensive long zoom cameras include (like the Powershot 1S IS, or the Panasonic DMC-FZ20). However, at this price point, it offers a great deal.

At full telephoto, you'll need IS or a tripod; I think any 10X zoom digicam needs IS standard.

I've heard that one should get a camera with image stabilization, if it's got that much zoom...

While I certainly do agree with jpeyton that IS should be standard, I would hope most that comment have read through Dave's review, specifically regarding high optical zoom.

As an example of the quality one might expect, examine "Lens Zoom Range" on this test image page (approximately half way down the page); specifically, this image (the wide angle shot at the same distance).

Yeah but, the image stabiliazation cams are expensive!!! This is a good deal for a great camera. For the best camera out there with stabilization for an relative cheap price check out the Konica-Minolta Z3. I just purchased one of these bad boys and it's awesome, had it for about a week and the stabilizer is awesome when you are zoomed way in on something.

The Z3 is definitely that next tier above the C-75x; but as you mentioned, more expensive. The DiMAGE Z series have a rather unique body design. Am curious as to how such a body style feels in use.

Buy.com recently offered the Z10 (the much older, non-IS version of the Z3) for $199.99, but I see the price has since been raised.

One of the things that impressed me most regarding the C-75x series was the quality of the "everyday shots", and the fact that it had a hot shoe (which most camera at this price point do not).

I have to say that without IS, a tripod would be required for shots anywhere close to 10x zoom.

I have a panasonic fz1(modded to fz2) w/12x optical and IS -- and I couldn't live without the image stabilization. To see how bad it really is without IS, go to BB or OD where they have the cameras out and just try to frame a shot at 10x hand-held.... I sure couldn't do it! (Which is why I went w/panasonic)
I paid $250 for my cam, and it only has 2.1MP -- which is sufficient for an 8x10 print (as long as I don't have to crop much). 4MP is really only significant (imo) when cropping.

4MP would be nice, but weigh that spec against having to lug around a tripod for your zoom shots. Other than the lack of IS, it seems like a good cam at a good price.

I still have the original C-700 and love it. While it IS difficult to get a perfect 10X shot without a tripod it's not that big of a deal. How many pictures do you think you would be taking at 10X? FWIW, the C-745, C-750 are rated at the top in CR.

I have the 765 wich looks to be the same camera. I dont like the camera that much though infact im trying to sell if and get either an 8080 or a Nikon 8700.

The battery life on this camera though is great and the pictures are decent but lowligth pics with this are terribly noisy which is why i want to get rid of it in favor of somethign with an AF assist light.
