OUTPOST HAS MAXTOR 200gb PATA for 69.95 shipped NO REBATES!

Outpost runs this deal periodically. I got one a few months back.

Great drive, great deal. In a year, it'll suck -- but it's definitely a hot deal now!

The one year warranty worries me, but still a good deal. No rebates and free shipping is music to the ears of AT hot dealers.

They could offer an eleventy billionGB harddrive from Maxtor for $20 and I wouldn't buy it. Maxtor is absolute garbage in my opinion. I like to think of them as temporary storage.

🙁

Wow. It took all of 7 posts to get our first "(Insert company name here) makes the absolute worst hard drives ever" post.

Nice deal. Thanks OP

I bought one of these the last time their deal came around. Way too noisy a drive for me. I returned it despite the awesome deal.

Haha yeah, I can never resist the temptation to put down Maxtor. By the way, did you miss the "opinion" text in my post.

I honestly would hate to see someone put money down on a Maxtor drive. Its not that they necessarily have a high failure rate, many other companies also have failures, but in most cases, the other drives are still under warranty.

Warranty should be a HUGE factor in making a purchasing decision for a hard drive. I personally have been hit with a loss of 3 Maxtors on 3 different PC's this year, none of which could be returned back to Maxtor, and all of which were greater than 1 but less than 2 years old.

Just for references sake, one drive failed with the term Calypso showing in the BIOS (corrupt firmware) and 2 have MOSFET overheating problems (drives randomly disappear during use.)
