For those who used to/still buying CD's and other cheap stuff from them: Free shipping is no more, unless you speding 100$.
Worse. Recently, I've ordered a spindle of 50 Kingston CD-Rs + 10 3" CD-r's, thinking that in that case 9$ s/h is OK. But, here is what happened - spindle was backordered at the moment thus they sent me e-mail, notifying, that "the item you've ordered was discontinued or backordered by manufacturer (pick one)... you can cancell the order". Feared that it is discontinued, I called and cancelled the order. Next thing I know, they're sending me an e-mail saying, that the 3' CD-Rs were alredy shipped, thus they can't cancel them. Obviously I've got the full s/h charge applied, putting those 3' cuties at 2$ a piece!!!
Even worse - CUSTOMER SUPPORT WAS TERRIBLE. They didn't do a thing to fix the mess to say least. Not even admit any wrongdoing or give me a s/h break on the similar to the backordered (as I found out later) item.
Moral? Think twice before odering from OUTPOST.

You should have just refused the delivery. BTW, this should go into Brag and Moan ...

This thread is sure to be locked...But since you started it, not me...

On the other hand...I ordered the Kingston 10 pack or 10x rated
CDRWs on their site a couple of months ago (I think) for $8.99,
back when they still had free shipping. I forgot about them,
as they were "backordered", and only remembered when I got
an email saying that they were still backordered after a month
(or whatever) and that the order was going to be canceled.
OK, no problem, whatever. So I ignored that email.

Then, a couple of weeks ago, the CDRWs arrived. $8.99. No shipping
charge. Overnight shipping. (Well, overnight from when they
were shipped!) Still a great buy compared to what I get
10x CDRWs for locally...

So they did OK by me...

Kwad, same thing happened to me regarding those Kingston 10x CDRW's (you must have the Iomega ZipCD :) It took them forever to ship, but I didn't get charged shipping.

I dont think they should lock threads like this. I personally never look in any other forums besides hot deals. Its good for these warnings to be in here because it concerns all the people who frequent this forum.

Well, I have to say, you got the exception to the rule.

I've purchased tons of times from Outpost, and when I've had problems, their CSR's have always helped me right away. When a merchant gave me static on a rebate, they gave me the cash on the spot. When something I ordered was delayed, they've credited the shipping cost.

All I can say is, your experience is not at all typical of Outpost. They're consistently rated the top online retailer for customer service, and I think their service rocks.

I've ordered from them 3 times, the last time was for the 10X re-writeables. That was a deal, esp. since I got 'em before they charged for shipping. I like them, but then again, haven't called for customer service. (I got the Zip CD too. :D)

I ordered the 10X CDRWs 10 pack with slim cases for $8.95 from them after hearing about it on this board, it was back ordered and listed as a 1-2 week wait. Got an email from them saying to respond if I wanted to keep my order active, I did. I finally got my order this week. Wasn't charged shipped either even though during the time I was waiting (over a month), they stopped their free shipping policy. I'm a happy camper. :)

You might want to give them a call and mention you ordered them when shipping was free. If you have a printout or email that shows this, you should be able to get a refund for shipping.

Outpost has had its ups and downs in my book. A few years back they had the 0.99 software deal and needless to say I went nuts and bought 8 titles. Of the 8 titles only 4 came in and the other orders were cancelled. Of the 4 titles one was actually opened and replaced by a GW-BASIC book for weight. Needless to say I called and they told me I was out of luck.

On a positive note, they have shipped plenty of CDs to my house overnight no prob. I find there prices to be a little high.
