Just curious, how do you know it doesn't work in XP? Most everything that works in 2k has worked for me in XP, either with a builtin driver or forcing it to use the 2k driver.

Do you have one of these?

It probably runs on WindowsXP, it's just that Soyo doesn't officially support it.
I found this on their products page:

"Technical Specifications
CAUTION: This device is not supported under Windows XP"

Shipping kills the deal for me

I have one of these (bought before the rebate), and use it under Win2k.
I bought it to use a DDR dance pad with DDR for the PC. It mostly works.. until you stand on a pad instead of tap it.
It's *supposed* to just hold down the button until you tap it again, but for some reason, either the pad or the "Kiki" USB adapter sends it as a repeating pulse, like autofire.

That totally horks DDR, and makes it unplayable.

It could be the PS2 "High Energy Dance Pad" (also from Fry's), but I suspect it's the PS2-USB adapter.

These things are really nice! I bought one a while back to play Soul Reaver 2 on PC. It looks cheap, but the contruction of the device is very solid, and it comes with a pretty long USB cable. It worked like a charm in Windows 2000, no driver installation required. Just plain auto-detected. Analog sticks are analog. I dunno if the analog buttons of a PS2 gamepad would work though. Supposedly force-feedback works, however I haven't tried anything with that feature yet. I might get another one seeing how it's free.

Slacktron, when I use my Dual Shock for PSX controller, the buttons hold down. I can prove this (to myself at least) by going to the Properties of the device under Settings->Control Panel->Gaming Options. Might be something to do with the Dance Pad, or it doesn't like the Dance Pad/converter combination. Dunno.

I have tried the KIKI Joy converter. The input seems delayed, test it out by using a regular psx controller on the controller test menu in windows.

I have tried it with a Dual shock and Dual shock 2.

The delay was very noticable in 2d shooters. Unaccecptable for play. Unless they have revised the converter, then it's not worth it.

Well I just received mine and I can confirm it doesn't work with XP. Anyone found any beta drivers or know of a hack or anything to get it working?

http://www.awaremag.com/hardware/soyo/kikijoy/kikijoy_2.html

This guy says that it worked for him with zero problems and presents screenshots of the xp game controller configuration menu.
I've seen some more usenet posts talking about this but I havent managed to find anything concrete about it.
(EDIT)
It appears if you just plug it in without installing drivers you have the best chance of having it work. I got an email back from someone who said that's what he did but it onlyworks on his USB pci card and not on the motherboard's onboard USB.

you can't play fighting games with the kiky joy. Me and my friends were trying to play street fighter on it and if you try to do a quarter circle on the psx pad it wont register the diagonal unless you go slow. other than that this thing is pretty cool.

Edit: Oh yeah this thing is not hot swappable in 98 mode. You have to plug the Kiky Joy in, have a psx controller plugged in before you turn on your comp before it shows up in your hardware. I never tried using it with another OS so I'm not sure how it performs in Xp or 2000

got one. ordered standard shipping.. but got it next day.. (chicago, IL).

anyways, it worked fine with my xp.
installed driver from soyo site and plugged it in..

only problem is, it has pretty long delay when i press buttons or directions.. so fighting games dont work too well.
ill try it on 98 machine later.

dont get it, i couldn't get it to work with XP and people have already been saying that the response is too slow for fighting games like street fighter so i would think you want something that can respond quickly so you don't crash making that turn in GT. I'm returning mine unless you want to buy mine.

If you've got time you can build a Parallel version of this kikyjoy. It works great. I believe its called Direct Pad Pro, there are instructions on how to build it and drivers for it all over the web.

How'd you get it working? I'm using XP Home SP1. I installed the driver from soyo, but no luck - device manager has a yellow exclamation mark by the device and it says "the device cannot start". Anyone else get it working on XP? If so please let me know. PM or email quincydog2002ATyahoo.com Thanks!

When I got mine, all that was in my box was the converter and the cd. No manual or warranty card. The driver installation was a little strange, but everything seems to work ok. The rumble effects aren't as good as a Rumblepad though.

I just formated and upgraded to XP, and I was having trouble with getting this to work as well. Like someone said earlier, with XP you can't use it with your mobo USB ports, it has to be with a PCI USB card. I also can't use the analog sticks unless it's in analog mode. In ME I could use their buttons, but now I can't unless I switch the mode which makes it so I can't use the D-Pad.

I can personally guarantee that it doesn't work in either XP Home or XP Pro, on any AMD system. It does work adequately on 98/ME, and some report success with NT or 2k, but trust me, despite all logic, it does not work on XP.

Also, I bought one for the purpose of doing DDR, and it absolutely is useless for that, since it interprets the inputs from a dance pad as digital joystick inputs (and hence, can't have a left and right or up and down simultaneous keypress).

Anyway, if you're using it on older 9x/ME systems, and you are buying it to play normal (non-dancing) games, go for it... it's worth the price. :)
