ABout that harddrive. Im really considering it but would udma be any worse performanc wize than sata?

theres no real point in comparing the two

if your system is new, why not go SATA since its not that expensive

if your system is old, you dont have a choice but PATA/UATA

SATA=150mbps, PATA=133mbps

my 2 cents

Well acctually there seems to be a pretty big price difference in my opinion. I mean i can get this drive for 50 where as a sata from seagate would cost me 110. Also all boards still suport udma and my cdroms would have to use it anyways. I just want to know if there is a performance difference

No difference whatsoever unless you go with a true-SATA, meaning a WD Raptor which remain expensive and of limited capacity. All the other SATAs are merely IDE drives with a SATA rather than IDE control card tacked onto the bottom so you can use those nice, thin SATA cables. The performance improvements gshock888 refers to only apply to tru-SATA drives -- not the zillions of so-called SATA drives that sell for 2-10% over the IDEs.

BTW, this 160gb is a very good drive (I run two) and this is a great deal.

Well, there certainly isn't a performance difference corresponding to the (2x) price difference. SATA is nice, but it's only coming into its own with SATA-2 HDs that include NCQ (Native Command Queueing) and hot-swapability.

BTW, this Seagate appears to be ATA-100. My MB is only ATA-100, but I thought ATA-100 had a limit of 120GB? Or am I thinking of ATA-66?

Edit: NewEgg appears to carry that same PC Chips memory card reader (for $8.50 + $4S&H), and they list its transfer rate as 1.5/12/480Mbps. Cord looks pretty short, though.

Thanks for the info now i need to figure out if i should pick a pair of these up or just wait and pay the 90 some at newegg with no rebate later on.

That's a really good price on the Canon MP-360, $69.99 plus shipping.

I'm also pretty tempted by the Airlink wireless stuff, but just ordered 2x refurb Netgear WG511's from Justdeals for $57 shipped. Such is life. Maybe I can try cancelling if it hasn't shipped.

Anyone have quality info on the airlink router? That looks like an awesome deal, if it's any good.

If you get the Airlink PCMCIA card, you can force U.S. Robotics drivers also. It's rather essential that you do force the USR drivers because they are less clunky and actually work better than the Airlink drivers. No placebo effect here people, I can bring my laptop to different rooms in my house now that I couldn't before.

Silly me, I should have provided linkage. That should be the same one. My brother was reading Broadband Reports about it and found out that USR uses the same exact thing as the Airlink and people installed the drivers for them.

This thread was originally posted on Dec 3rd. The HD rebate was from 12/3-12/9.
